The Guthrie - a great regional theater - is producing My Fair Lady this summer. I'm going to have to go, because I am embarrassed to admit that I have never seen the film, or a stage production of the show.
And I have wanted to see the Guthrie, so - it's a no-brainer.

I saw a touring version in the late 70's with Edward Mulhare (Rex Harrison's Broadway replacement) and Anne Rogers (Julie Andrew's West End replacement) with the original set and costume designs

My dad said that when he was in the army, he was in New York one time and was able to see the show on Broadway right after Rex and Julie left.

My mom and dad saw SOUTH PACIFIC shortly after Martin and Pinza left.  I think somewhere I have their snapshot of the marquee.

I'm up after a good night's sleep.  Here's Mark Evanier's final take on the show:  http://www.newsfromme.com/2014/05/23/druthers/

In his review he mentions a song that wasn't in the script. Which song was he referring to?

Do you mean this? -- "plus a number that weren't in the script" -- because there he's referring to a number of laughs or gags, not a song.

You are correct. I just read it incorrectly (twice)

Well, as long as its playing the Guthrie and you've always wanted to see the Guthrie.  Try to concentrate while you're in the Guthrie or you might as well be watching "Pure As the Driven Snow" if you allow yourself to be overwhelmed by your surroundings.

Which reminds me of Tallulah Bankhead saying "I'm pure as the driven slush".

I decided to create a new YAHOO account since my other one is not available to me.  BUT you cannot create a new YAHOO account without giving them a mobile phone number.

SO this is where I leave YAHOO behind.

I would recommend gmail. I like it much much better than yahoo.

I love these G/D references...and they never quite equate to Guys and Dolls.

From DR TCB:
Quote
Jane, in SECOND WATCH, J D Beaumont is haunted by some memories of his days in Viet Nam; and his guilt for not following up on the fiance of his platoon leader who was killed.  The fiance is my cousin, Bonnie Abney.  The platoon leader was her real fiance who was killed in Viet Nam.

Do you know if anymore of the story pertaining to this is true?

Years ago I read a book by Jance and didn't want to read anymore.  I enjoyed this very much, except that she refers to the black & white Bernese Mt. Dog.  I think she was confusing a Landseer with a Berner.

I got a kick out of the Ashland references.

Tonight I will be taking in the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra's concert presentation of Benjamin Britten's opera, The Turn of the Screw, an adaption of the novella by Henry James.

A good ghost story!

From DR Vixmom:
Quote
unlike most other states, we  do "wet closings"  so buyers and sellers, their attorneys, their realtors, the title closer and the bank attorney all gather at the same time to sign all the papers  and  exchange keys for cash

We did this in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.  We also did it when we purchased our Massachusetts house.  Leaving I can't recall if the buyers were there, probably.  What was shocking was to find out we would not get our money right away to buy the new house the next day.  We had to wait several hours for them to expedite the process before driving to Pennsylvania.  That was the time I fell asleep driving.  Thanks goodness I didn't crash.

I had one of those days.  At least my car and I made it safely to the dealership.  Sometime tomorrow they will run a diagnostic and hopefully find out why the "take the car to the dealership" lights are on and why the car is doing screwing things.  They said it sounds like it is misfiring.  It jerks really hard, vibrates on and off, raced once, and when I got off of the freeway it felt like it was stalling.

Boy, was I relieved when I pulled into the dealership.

I walked to Baskin Robbins and got an ice cream cone, even got a full scoop vs my usual junior size.  Keith met me there instead of the dealership.

Yikes, Jane!  Hopefully, it won't be too expensive to fix. :-\

Sneaking in on a crazy busy day to wish everyone a wonderful holiday weekend.

My day ain't over yet. Have an early eve audition/meeting with my old bosses at Crystal. Hoping it is brief so I can have one more shot at seeing Abner. I tried to go last night only to be caught in a freeway snafu that went on forever. Infuriating.

Anyhoo, onward and upward.  :D

Thanks.  I hope not.  If so we might decide to get rid of my car instead and only have one car between us.  I prefer not to give up my car but I use it so rarely.

Fantastic press and response for LI'L ABNER! Given my mobility, balance problems and physical state, I think I made the right decision in turning BK down, but I would kill to be in LA to see it. I would love to hear David's orchestrations and watch BK's staging and Kay's choreography. I wish for BK nothing but good things and a long life for this show.

So, I have to get my energy in gear and myself together. I keep thinking, tomorrow morning you can sleep in! And I plan to.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  Wonderful Weekend Vibes for Everyone!  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I liked the orchestrations very much. I know yours would have been brilliant, too, but you can rest assured that these were done well. IMHO, that is.
Free symphony ticket tonight. Patriotic pops for Memorial Day. No clue about the actual pieces , but the seat is front row of the mezzanine.
