I know I saw SORCERER in Westwood, but have never trusted my memory on where it played. Was it the AVCO?
I had the opposite reaction of BK's when it opened because I hadn't yet seen WAGES OF FEAR, so I was quite taken with the proceedings. I even liked the music, bought the LP (still have it), played it quite a bit, and returned to the movie a couple of times. However, even a couple of close friends (who had loved Friedkin's work up to then -- as had I -- and who were predisposed to enjoying a new Friedkin thriller -- as was I -- were less than thrilled with it, so I was kind of alone in my enthusiasm.
Never crossed paths with it after that, till about five years ago when I bought the DVD. As poor as that DVD was, I liked it all over again, as did a couple of friends who watched with me. They're younger than me and had never heard of it, but they loved Scheider so it was quite the discovery for them. Even then, I felt it had nicely ripened, so I'm glad to hear BK's take on that now.
