And here's the optometry hospital...it's sort of a site for sore eyes!

Fifteen minutes ago I was told he was knocking at my door.  He was not knocking at my door.  Heaven knows whose doore he was knocking at or what block he was on but it wasn't mine.  So, who knows when he will get here.

I hate when that happens and it is amazing how often it does happen.

Beckon, how sweet.  Thank you but I really couldn’t be so good as to post a response to everyone’s messages.  I’m sure Bruce would like it if I posted that often.  :)

I didn't see the movie, or even know what movie it was for, but I remember seeing a commercial and Jayne Mansfield (I think) walked into a room, thrust her boobs out and said, "Step back gentlemen, I take deep breaths."  I laughed and laughed...out loud, even!

Well, I see that I have missed a multitude of Birthdays.

Belated Birthday Wishes to all who had them in the previous week. I'm sure I ate enough cake, ice cream, deep-fried Oreos and other goodies to make you all jealous or happy or however you feel when eating such tasty treats.

Stuart I’m glad you didn’t have depressing life-altering news this weekend-had me scared for a second.  Great line by the way.

Welcome back WFO!  Gosh, what a story to return with.  At least your friend kept his sense of humor.

Ben, sounds like you had a fun vacation.

Good Afternoon!

Welcome back, DRs Ben and WFO!!!  So nice to have you back where you belong. ;) -Ah, a Jerry Herman reference/quote.

Nothing new since last night except that I need to go through a small pile of stuff and get it ready to be dropped off at the post office.  So... I guess I should stop dillying and dallying, and get on with my day...

The Dilly Dally Song was one of my favorite little Golden records....remember those yellow things?  I think it was on the flip side of The Hokey Pokey.

The only recording that sounded worse was one that we cut off a Wheaties box.

I still have copies of the Archies' "Sugar, Sugar" and The Jackson 5's "ABC" that were cut off of boxes of Post Sugar Crisps.

Right, I stayed away from Marx Brother quotes because I could tend to go overboard and, besides, didn't we do them when that last Marx Bros. boxed DVD set was released?

Speaking of Marx Bros. DVD boxed sets, I'm curious to see if Universal did any clean-up/remastering on their five Marx. Bros' epics when THAT boxed set gets released in a few weeks. I know there will be special features with the box, but I'm interested in the features themselves and exactly how much it's possible to improve on films that old.

I quote Woody Allen almost constantly.  I need the eggs.

But a line from a musical I really like is an exchange between Siamese twin sisters in From the Hip:

Sissy: Mother always told us we shouldn't get involved romantically unless it was with another set of Siamese twins.

Sassy: With our luck, we'd fall in love diagonally!

I also thought I might mention that I made Challah for the first time yesterday.  Actually, it was the first time I ever made any sort of yeast bread at all.

With the holidays coming up, and having the time (and the inclination), I thought it would be a nice thing to try.  My intention was to make two round loaves (the traditional shape for the Jewish New Year), and to make one "sample" braided loaf, so that the dear partner and I could taste it before the holidays (and I would therefore know whether I had to buy challah at a bakery, or at Wegman's).

We were quite pleased with my efforts.  One of the round loaves spread a bit, so we decided to make it the sample loaf, and to fly against tradition by making the larger, braided one for Rosh Hashanah, with the smaller, round one for Kol Nidre and the breaking of the Yom Kippur fast.

I guess all the talk a couple of weeks ago about DR JMK's wife's challah also got me into the mood to try baking some myself.

A favorite movie line of mine, from Mommie Dearest, which contains a plethora of wonderfully quotable bits of dialogue:

"Don't %&@# with me, fellas."

With the accent on the "@"!

And there is The House of the Seven Bagels.

Actually, it is the "House of Seven Beagles", a treatment Panni is doing for Disney.

Part of the reason I mention the challah baking, is that the recipe I was following referred to the fomenting yeast and some other ingredients as a "sponge."  Which reminded me of one of my other favorite FGIRL quotes:

FANNY (Watching Nick absorb her Henry Street neighborhood and friends, after an admonition from her mother):  He's a gentleman.  A gentleman fits in anywhere.

MRS. BRICE (delivered as only Kay Medford could): A sponge fits in anywhere!
