For those who have Netflix streaming or Amazon.com streaming, I highly recommend Michi Kobi's film with Richard Long, TOKYO AFTER DARK. Highly entertaining film noir which was much better than I had expected it to be. And Michi's character is much less of a stereotype then these photos would indicate.

Would "Lawrence of Arabia" be considered a biographical film?  If so, then "Lawrence of Arabia"...and also "Out of Africa" would fit the mold, too, although both films cover only a portion of the lives of the subjects.

I'm grateful he can at least spell Zola's name. but I doubt he'll ever read one of his novels.

I think I only watched it because I was going to interview Marcia Mae Jones. I thought it was going to be deadly dull, that Zola, but it was quite a fascinating film.

I am home. I am calling a locksmith to replace my door locks. I cannot accuse the super of being in my apartment, but I have had the feeling a couple of times that someone has been in while I'm not here. The only other set of keys is with my neighbor, and she's had them for twenty years.

TOD: Can't think of any biography movies that I've seen. I've enjoyed a bunch of one-person plays, of which "Golda's Balcony" was probably the most powerful, and "Goodnight, Gracie" the most enjoyable. I don't know if "Copenhagen" counts as biographical, but it certainly was magnificent.

No, and the text, even translated, is much more difficult than "Look, Jane. See Sally drunk."

Coal Miner's Daughter & Sweet Dreams about Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline respectively....although lots of liberties taken with both stories.

Lincoln.....the newest one with some good performances.

And of course there is the other end of the spectrum....two awful, boring movies that purported to tell the life stories of Jacqueline Susann (Lovely Me) and Jean Harlow (Harlow....two films both terrible).

The first part of the television version of Annette Funicello's book - A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes - was pretty good, but the second half with Eva LaRue as the teen and grown Annette was terrible.  If Annette had been the insipid and vapid person she is presented as in the second half....she would not have had the fans she had....

Tuesday afternoon greetings!  I was up and out early to meet Becky for breakfast and a nice long chat at Starbucks.  She and her husband leave tomorrow to return to their boat in Grand Haven, Michigan.

DR MBarnum, my family lived on N. E. Halsey Street when I was born.  My sister talks about walking to Rose City Park.  I, of course, remember nothing because I was only 2 and a half when we moved.  The vague memories I have of Portland are from visiting there with my parents when I was 8.

I am trying to recall what she said when I interviewed her. I do remember what Van Williams had to say about Diane McBain, however.


I remember when I first met Diane McBain at one of the events in Burbank. Still so beautiful. I look forward to reading her book.

Yes indeedy, Van was one of Willson's clients. Willson pretty much supplied Warner Bros. with all their male actor needs in the late 50s early 60s.
