Hump and a Hair Shirt.

It makes me very happy that this fits into the tune, "Shave and a Haircut."

I will get to 12 YEARS A SLAVE sometime soon.  I did finally get around to watching DJANGO UNCHAINED, and the aspects of slavery depicted in that were (I know it's odd to say this, but):  refreshingly horrifying.  I put it that way because I'm both repelled and drawn to learning more about what the HELL it was all about.

(I believe that at least one thing in DJANGO (the "Mandingo fighting") has been stated as not true to history.  But it certainly seems to fit in with other aspects of the treatment of slaves, so I take it, as always with Tarantino's flicks, as a kind of poetic license.  I have to admit to being a sucker for his films as occasional entertainment, however faithful to original material or history they may or may not be.)

I never knew what a hair shirt was, either, even though I'd heard the term all my life, and I googled it for pictures.

Okay, this stuff looks like something that would feel right at home in a Thomas Harris / Hannibal Lecter thriller.

I've listened to the Act Two mix of ROBERTA that we accomplished last month.

I am forgetting if anyone here has seen KINKY BOOTS. If so, would it be appropriate to take my 11 year old neice to? Reading the plot it sounds perfectly fine, but just concerned about language.

I agree with you on how effective and refreshing his outrageous takes on things can be.

I have seen it but I can't remember. I'll ask my boss, who has kids, what he would say.

I bought the CD of the new "West Side Story" directly from San Francisco Symphony and it arrived today!  I was looking through the 104-page booklet and just noticed the BK's close and personal friend, Juliana (A.) Hansen plays Rosalia!  I didn't look at the cast list when I first downloaded it from iTunes (yup...I double-dipped).  Part of her bio includes this line, "Ms. Hansen has also released Juliana Hansen—Live at The Federal on Kritzerland Records."  That's pretty cool!

I haven't seen it, but I read that they advertise as 12+ (no bad language).  However it is about a bunch of drag queens. Would the parents of the child object to this?

Last night I popped in THE INNOCENTS, but stupidly started way too late to get all the way through it, so tonight I'll back up to wherever it was I began nodding off and finish it.

I never read the James novella, so will do that soon.  I'd also like to get back in touch with Britten's opera.  They did it when I was in school, but that one wasn't a piece I was studying, and all I retain is the vaguest memory of playing the celesta behind the set.

Criterion just announced that they are coming out with a new Blu-Ray/DVD version of THE INNOCENTS in September.

No!

No?
