And speaking of LaChanze, I just finished listening to "Ahrens & Flaherty: Nice Fighting You: A 30th Anniversary Celebration" and LaChanze sings songs from both "Once On This Island" and "Ragtime."  She and the rest of the cast are just wonderful.  I really love this live recording!

I do, too. Liz Callaway is great. Love Bobby Steggart's songs. Rebecca Luker just steals the album.

I think that my mind is  becoming senile. Not only do I seem to far too often forget the names of coworkers, people I have worked with for 16 years (!), but today is the third time in a year that I forgot to go to a doctor appointment.

You just didn't want to go.

Daniel Keyes, who wrote "Flowers for Algernon," has died. This was one of the 40 or so books we had to read for freshman English.

Didn't Michael Crawford star in the musical version in London?

Why, yes, TCB; I believe he did.  However the musical was called CHARLIE AND ALGERNON.

I read that Terrence McNally's IT'S ONLY A PLAY is coming back to Broadway this Fall with Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick.  Are those two married or something?

Woops -- I was online here all the time whilst watching the second half of THE INNOCENTS again.

What a great film.  And I was wide awake for it this time.

And I really can't wait to hear the Britten TURN OF THE SCREW.  It's been on my mind all day.  I'll take DR Elmore's advice and get the BBC production to watch, and at some point I'll get the Brittern/Pears recording.  I thought I might have an LP set, but I don't.

RIGOLETTO was great -- a lot of fun.  Will have a few things to say about it tomorrow.

I am puzzled why Monday we were only a couple of posts shy of nine pages; and yet the last two day we have had to fight to get beyond five pages?

Well, who can explain it?  Who can tell you why?

Night before last the storms were really bad.  That's when I was in the basement.  Yesterday morning I got the news that my parents boat was down the shore on the rocks and that there was a lot of damage at the lake.  So I spent all day yesterday on the clean up.  The dock and boat are totaled and mom had one rug that was soaking wet, but other that everything was ok.  They were lucky

I came home last night from the lake and there was a tornado straight west of here that just wasn't moving.  The local weather guy said they didn't know where it was going to go once it did start moving and suggested no one in Sioux City go to bed until we knew.  So, I went down the basement and watched tv.  The cats came down on their own.  We didn't have a warning, but it was easier to just sit down there and watch tv.

When I got up this morning there weren't very many muscles in my body that didn't hurt and I was pooped out.

So, I took today off from working on the mess downstairs.   I did call a company that specializes in keeping water out of your basement.  They can't get here until July 22 to do an estimate because there are so many people in the same boat.  I'll dig in and get that room cleaned out tomorrow, then it will be ready when they do come

They did the work on my parents' basement at the lake and it was bone dry yesterday. (The wet rug wasn't in the basement)  That's testimonial enough for me.  So, I'm hoping I can afford to get the work done

There are floods everywhere along the rivers here.   We've had close to 7 inches of rain since Saturday and they've had more than that upstream.  So tomorrow they are closing a portion of I-29 and they are building big levees and sand bagging. etc.   Tonight I went to a boat club on the big Sioux river.  It was fun.  Lots of people drinking beer and watching the boat docks start to give way and go downriver.   There were HUGE trees that were floating by and all sorts of stuff.

A woman recognized me from my commercials and insisted I join her and her husband.  She then proceeded to introduce me to all her friends and invited me to a big party/benefit at the boat club next month.   It was great fun and as I left she said "You made a lot of new friends tonight"  I thought that was really sweet.

So the funny thing is, I've been eaten by bugs, have been hot and sweaty from working outside in 101 degree heat index and have been in the basement hiding from potential tornados, but it's been a very good vacation so far.  I read somewhere that nothing gets you away from your own crap better than good hard work.  Well, it seems to be working for me.

I did buy myself an early birthday present....a Nikon Coolpix S9700 camera.  I love it!   I was actually driving around and trying it out when I ended up at the boat club.

And thus ended the saga of my last couple days.   Sorry I haven't caught up, but I will.  Now I really need some sleep.  Tomorrow is going to be a day of dealing with yuck and I want to get some sleep and get an early start on it

Perhaps because I was busy doing the things I just talked about and wasn't here to spark dazzling conversation....well, ok maybe not
