For those interested, DR Kate's and my nephew, Patrick Hall, is expected to be on American Ninja Warrior tonight on NBC (9 pm EDT).  He probably won't be on for very long, unfortunately.

A shame he won't be on long.  Did he enjoy the experience?

I suppose to some extent.

Watching/listening to the BBC DVD of Britten's TURN OF THE SCREW.  Really nice to hear it after so many years.

I saw a wonderful semi-staged concert of this opera just about a month ago.

MAJOR CRIMES is really funny tonigh. And so intelligent. When they do a comedy episode it's always wonderful.

And the bad news: there's already a HOLLER glitch.

Just got home from watching fireworks.  Even found a good parking spot.  I always park in the lot. But it can be hard to get out of with so many cars. And unfortunately even though the police are there they don't seem to help much.  This time I found a spot and it was very easy to leave from there.  Was home in less than 10 minutes after the show ended.

I agree about DR Jeanne's car mirror. It would make more sense that the mirror on the street side was accidentlt hit vs vandalized. Why would someone want to intentionally vandalize a mirror?

For the same reason someone would intentionally "key" a person's brand new (and expensive) car.

Went to hear Jim Cullum and his jazz band play at a tiny little dive in a not-great neighborhood and was sad when I got there because there were only about 8 or 9 of us there. But by the time I left, the place was SRO. The band had kicked in with some Eubie Blake and Fats Waller. The last song I heard was a lovely take on "I'm Old Fashioned." I'm going to have to go back.

Well, apparently they're not showing  my nephew Patrick on the show.  The last contestant is on now.  Oh, well.

A lightning-quick trip to Tacoma and back will do that to a person.         ;)

No, I believe she traveled round-trip to Olympia.

DR JRand, if the Dream-o-matic is not too pooped out, I have had recurring dreams about moving. Usually I am living with my sister, but am having to move out...and I am quite aprehensive about doing so. Then, it turns out I already have been paying rent on a perfectly nice apartment somewhere else, and everything turns out fine.

Other times it is that I am living with my sister (or sometimes with my dad and stepmom) and find I will have to move, along with my younger brother, to my mother's tiny cottage or trailer. I am worried about how we will all get along in such a tiny space. Then, like the above dream, it turns out I have been paying rent on an apartment that I forgot about, so as it turns out i can move there.

Have been having these dreams for the last 6 months or more, with slight variations, such as having to move to Medford for a new job. But then it turns out there was/is no reason for me to move as I already have a job and place to live where I am.

Please tell me, am I crazy? Don't hold anything back.

It means you are insane. I recommend a comfortable padded cell.

Actually, Mikey, I recommend a long visit to New York City!

DR vixmom - I hope you will use your newly repopulated cell phone directory to notify others, in a timely manner, of mini-LI-HHW-get-togethers at roadhouses and diners.

that sounds like a fine idea!

Oh -- I must report to DR vixmom the latest parking coup:   $18 (count 'em) in a theater district garage on the most crowded and agonizingly slow-moving Sunday afternoon I've experienced in a long time.  It's the ICON on W. 45th that goes underneath Junior's, near the Booth.  I've used that one a lot over the years because you can't beat the location.  Now you can't beat the price, either, at least when using these web coupons.  Mine was from http://nyc.bestparking.com/

These coupons must be all the rage now.  They have signs posted reminding you to hand your coupons in with your ticket, and to be aware that the use of coupons requires payment by credit card.  At least at some locations.  I think it had to be cash at one somewhere else, not sure.

I love that place!   Super convenient and the prices are right (if you hava coupon)
I usually am able to get a coupon for there  from http://www.iconparkingsystems.com/
