I am still contemplating the photo DR SINGDAW posted yesterday of a dog walking down the street carrying the leg of a mannequin.

Perhaps it was Natalie Portman's wooden leg.

And only a dog named Chompers would sashay down a busy city street with a wooden leg in his mouth.

I think any dog can sashay if he is so inclined, whether he has an extra leg or not.  Although perhaps the extra leg would give him more of a swagger than a sashay.....

Sort of reminds me of one of my favorite Indiana jokes. From "The Philadelphia Story": "South Bend? It sounds like dancing."

I'm up, I'm up.  Was up at six-thirty, then fell back asleep an hour later, so eight hours in all.

We did, indeed, watch the two films that DR Jeanne recommended last night. Both were wonderful.

I'm watching some of those Mary Rodgers clips, and I have to say no one can belt out "Shy" like Carol Burnett.

Friday afternoon greetings!  Richard and I left for the Y about 11am and were ready for lunch when we left there a couple hours later.  Because I wanted to visit a flooring place south of here, we decided to check out the dining options at Miami Valley Gaming, the new racino between here and my Mom's.  It's so NOT our kind of place, but an appropriate place to go on the day that tens of thousands of librarians are gathering in Las Vegas for the American Library Association Annual Conference.  We looked at the dining places, but thought the prices were too high and ended up at Gold Star Chili across the street.  After lunch we picked out new flooring for the upstairs bathroom and set up a tentative install date of next Wednesday.

It has been too long since I swam and it felt so very good to be in the water again.  I lucked out with my own lane.

I didn't know Powell at all until Ginny talked about her. Because she's an early century writer I looked to see if any of her stuff was at Gutenberg or Many Books. No luck there but the Internet Archive, a great resource has those 2 books. Open Library, another Internet lending library, has 17 of her books in some form

Dawn Powell Open Library

I've got all her novels that were reissued, the volume of collected plays, the Tim Page bio and the volume of collected letters. I kinda went Powell crazy in the 1990s. Still love her stuff.

Thank you to DR Ben for the links to eBook versions of Dawn Powell's work.  Ask Anthony if he remembers helping me pick out DP books at the Strand Bookstore and then chatting about my project on a park bench in Union Square.

DR John G, when you read WHITHER (which I didn't think was so bad), pay attention to the description of Rowena, the Lyceum performer, between pages 112 and 121.  I laughed out loud when reading that and imagining what Dawn would think of a Chautauqua enactment of herself!

Yes, it's a warehouse kind of place and we don't have time to be choosy.  Rob and Mary Linda's move-in date is 3 weeks from tomorrow and I'm getting a little panicky about what all still needs to be done.

I think she had a good sense of humor about everything but herself.

It is hard making decision when you have to do it quickly.  I hope you are very pleased with the results.

I would also be a bit panicky.
