Well, there is only one performance of "The Tempest" left, and then it's over. Whenever I do shows, I always have fun, but I'm also always glad when it's over. Last night went well and afterward, there was a party at the house of the woman (yes, a woman) who played Caliban. There were a couple of other characters whose gender had changed from the original, but it all worked.

When I was a kid, Chicken in a Bisket was a favorite treat in the house that we had on special occasions like a family trip. I haven't had one in, maybe, 40 years, and though I loved them, I don't think I ever associated the flavor with chicken. My guess now is that it's something like bouillon flavoring, which I didn't know as a kid.

Glad to read that they still make them. I'll have to look for them.

Well, I'll be. Yes, you read that right. I, DR ChasSmith, will be.

I didn't recognize the name, but as soon as I saw that package of Chicken in a Biskit, I knew I'd had these, and enjoyed them.

Yesterday I said it takes a good flavored cracker to interest me, and though I was thinking more along the lines of garlic and herbs, etc., these certainly qualify. What I don't remember is at which stage of life I was eating them. And I don't think I'm the one who discovered and bought them. I believe they were something a former roommate or other friend was buying a lot, and I learned about them that way. I know it's been some years. I shall have to make a few inquiries.

I think it was DR singdaw who posted a link to the Times article on Broadway substitute musicians.

That kind of thing is pure porn for the likes of me. Endlessly fascinating ... and hair-raising. I'm in awe of good Broadway musicians, anyway, which hardly makes me unique. But the very idea of first-time subbing without so much as one run-through strikes terror into the very act of imagining it.

I'm also stunned at the number of actual full-time players -- 349 or some such? What the HELL is that? You could stuff that many people into a Volkswagen at the circus. I wonder what the number used to be, back in the day.

I know my headlight replacements of a couple of weeks ago (and my mention of it to someone yesterday) inspired another dream.

Good morning, all! I slept 14 hours this morning, so it's a depression! Tomorrow I must force myself to be out of bed and moving by 7:30. We'll see. My day is completely open, so I may lie here and watch some DVDs after I look over the ROBERTA booklet notes again. Now that the Man from Philadelphia has become ridiculously difficult these past weeks, I want the notes to be really good before I leave Toyland.

DR ChasSmith, if you consider that - before the advent of producers believing a synth could replace a string section - an orchestra in 1960 might hold as many as 33-35 players, that MOST HAPPY FELLA had 38, and the small Princess Theatre in 1917 had a small band of 19, I'd say the number of 349 today was 3 rimes that. Also, before 1990 or so, there were industrial shows and a lot of TV programs and specials hiring orchestras on a steady basis. Today, a Broadway pit that might have once held 35 musicians now may only hold at most 18 because the space has been filled in with sound equipment or an extra row of audience seats.

No El in the name. As Bruce said it was on Pico next to the Playhouse which is on the corner of Patricia.

Yes, best tacos ever. Also, they had a green sauce that was served along with the traditional red sauce for chips, tacos, whatever. I wish I had asked Andy for the recipe because not only does no one serve this any more but it was the best green sauce (don't know what it is called) by far that I ever had.

Weird, DR Jane - all the Mexican jernts around here serve a red sauce AND a green sauce with the chips. I have no idea what it is called, however.
