Haven't you realized frpm his posts that he's deranged and unemployable?  It's my experience that you are only employable if you are insane and wealthy.

Anthony is back from the dentist so the east side of 23rd Street is safe.

I don't know about 9th Avenue, though.

Perhaps you can write into your employment contract that you must have 24/7 access to HHW and the part of the Internet that isn't "dirty"

I just learned that all of the McGlinnventory, that picked up from Toyland last week and that sitting at Rodgers & Hammerstein, are all on their way to the Library of Congress. That's very good news: one more responsibility off my back as I close up Toyland.

And it's time to head downtown.  I'll bus to Lincoln Center and then take the No.11 bus to 23rd and 9th Ave.

BK,

I'm a little confused about your review of the the MARTY disc.

I have not seen this new edition and am perfectly satisfied with the old MGM/UA DVD I've had for years.

Granted, not all DVD or Blu-ray transfers are ideal, but when you disagree with the statement "It's better than nothing," are you really saying that if, say MARTY, cannot be duplicated to meet your standards, it should not be made available to the public at all?

There are several movies that I like for which I have less than ideal DVD transfers, but what I do have are the best (as far as I know) that is available.  And, I would rather have these than nothing.

BTW: It's amazing how sharp a DVD looks when it's played on a Blu-Ray player on a Hi-Def TV.

My question for ASK BK Day:

If a television station or cable service pays for clearances/rights to run or show a particular movie or program....say I LOVE LUCY or THE AMERICANIZATION OF EMILY.....are they obligated to show the version provided by the licensee, or can they use another DVD or other Digital File if it is available?

From DR Cilla:

You know, that's a funny thing.  I've always used Edith to translate and she laughed at me when I told her I could speak Spanish.

Maybe she wanted you to think you needed her.

That is great you can call your brother's assistant if you need to.   Hospitals use a service they can call for a translator.  I wonder if you can also do that on a need to use basis.

It would probably depend on the individual license.

Ginny, do you need a stress test since the new living arrangement began? Or are you adjusting to it?

When Rob was about 4 or 5 he came home from Vacation Bible School and told me how much he'd liked the cookies they'd had for snack time.  I asked what they were and he said they had "chocolate inside."  The next time we went to the grocery we spent quite a while in the cookie aisle looking at all the chocolate-filled items and he didn't find the ones from church.  Next time I saw the VBS coordinator I asked her what kind they were and she said - wait for it - Fig Newtons!

I like my Fig Newtons slightly stale.

Funny.

I used to like them from the frig.  When I crave a Fig Newton I resist the use.  I hope I don't see one today or I might not be able to.

I think Fig Newtons were as much a staple in our house as Saltines and Ritz and Graham Crackers.  And though I would eat all of these, even binge on them at times, I was never, shall we say, "passionate" about any of them.  It has now been many years since I've had a Fig Newton, and I never tried any of the alternate versions.  In fact, I'm not sure I even knew about them.

I have tried and disliked the alternate versions.  The original were one of my favorite store bought cookies.

ASK BK

Did you see the last Broadway revival of Boeing Boeing? If you did other than the name changes of the stewardesses would you know what other revisions were made from the original 60's version?

Also do you think could it work in an all male version?

Other than having seen about thirty minutes of the film with Jerry Lewis and Tony Curtis, one of the only movies of that era I ever walked out on at a sneak preview, I know nothing of the original play or the revival.

I am saying that I don't really want to see Marty in a way its filmmakers didn't intend me to see it.  In this case, Marty was shot at 1.85 and that is how I'd like to see it.  If they hadn't transferred from a compromised source and even matted to 1.66 I'd go along with it.  I can watch it incorrect and enjoy the story, sure.  But these guys on these boards want it all ways - with Marty it's "Well, it's better than nothing" but with any number of other transfers it's "This is horrible - recall!"  Sorry, you can't have it all ways.  Either everything is fine because "It's better than nothing" or things should be presented properly.
