I am back. The car maintenance took much less time and MUCH less money than I had anticipated.       :)

I have secured tickets fourth row center for the opening of the new Ordway Recital Hall in downtown St. Paul next March. I know two of the featured singers. DR Jrand63, one of them sang the role of Kitty in Dr. Atomic at the Met.
In the photo below, the part on the left is what stands there now. The part on the right is now under construction, and eventually will blend seamlessly in. They both look out on Rice Park, the location of the ice sculptures that I posted photos of during the Winter Carnival.

Good morning.

TOD: I do not want to live outside the US. In fact, I do not want to live outside Arizona. I love Arizona, even in the summer.

Story of the day

Tired of being broke and stuck in an unhappy marriage, a young husband decided to solve both problems by taking out a large insurance policy on his wife and arranging to have her killed.

A "friend of a friend" put him in touch with a nefarious underworld figure, who went by the name of "Artie." Artie explained to the husband that his going price for snuffing out a spouse was $5,000. The husband said he was willing to pay that amount, but that he wouldn't have any cash on hand until he could collect his wife's insurance money.

Artie insisted on being paid in part up front. The man opened up his wallet and displayed the single dollar bill that rested inside. Artie sighed, rolled his eyes, and reluctantly agreed to accept the dollar as down payment for the dirty deed.

A few days later, Artie followed the man's wife to the local Safeway grocery store. There, he surprised her in the produce department and proceeded to strangle her with his gloved hands. As the poor unsuspecting woman drew her last breath and slumped to the floor, the manager of the produce department stumbled unexpectedly onto the scene. Unwilling to leave any witnesses behind, Artie had no choice but to strangle the produce manager as well.

Unknown to Artie, the entire proceeding were captured by hidden cameras and observed by the store's security guard, who immediately called the police. Artie was caught and arrested before he could leave the store.

Under intense questioning at the police station, Artie revealed the sordid plan, including his financial arrangements with the hapless husband.

And that is why, the next day in the newspaper, the headline declared: "Artie chokes two for a dollar at Publix"

Oh DR SINGDAW.....she was fantastic in Doctor Atomic.

I liked that show so much, after I bought the DVD, it came out on BluRay, so I bought that, too.

I have another version of it from Scandinavia that has much different choreography, but the one that was on PBS is still my favorite.

Highly recommended by the likes of me.....

I took some photos to make a slideshow for the lobby for LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, and I took a few photos during the rehearsal so I would have something to meet the deadline for the weeklies.  Here is the best of them.....Seymour and Audrey - she isn't wearing her blonde wig.

TOD:

I don't think I'd want to live in a country other than the United States.

However, if I had a time machine, I would opt to live in the US of 50-60 years ago when the Government was not so intrusive in individuals' lives and did not stifle opportunities to get ahead.

A great time: HUAC, blacklisting, the iron curtain, segregation, J. Edgar Hoover, Jimmy Hoffa, and Lawrence Welk. At least back then the GOP could walk and chew gum at the same time. Although they did take the gum out their mouths to call any liberal thinker a pinko, commie tool.

TOD:

Tough question.  I'm torn.  There are strong reasons for me to select England, and there are strong reasons for me to select Italy.

However, I'm going to say Greece.   I love the country, the weather, the food, the history, the architecture, the devotion to its past and its struggles toward its future.

I'm afraid to click on that link.  I just saw Meryl Streep in the preview for some dystopian movie, and she looks like a deranged Cher impersonator......

I was going to post that. Looks darker than I had thought. And definitely does not play up the fact that it is a musical.
