Boy, all this talk of HHW activity in the NY area makes me a wee bit homesick!

It would be a good time for a return visit.

I concur, I am pretty sure Elmore's fire escape will be free in  November
freezing but free

by "free" I of course mean "available" , but I am sure he will extend the  normal HHW discount  off the usual rental fee

Back from a long day of church services and concerts (attending, not performing).

Now, we have thunder.

Is it Celtic Thunder?

Now I'm off to an Italian dinner prepared by Luca Della Casa from "Foot Network Star." The dinner is supposed to end before the episode is supposed to air, so I think we'll be watching that, too.

now there's a network devoted to FEET?!!

Indeed. And I took my typing lessons from the Vixmon School of Jamaican Foot Typing.

I am so proud

Luca's dinner was wonderful, and it was great to see the episode of Food Network Star while dining. He really showed on this episode that he has star potential, more so than ever before, and his pilot looked incredible, too.

He's just the nicest man. He saw me from afar and came up to shake my hand and thank me for coming to the dinner, even while others were trying to get their pictures taken with him. That made me feel good.

very nice!!!

Back from PETER PAN, and it turned out to be a damned fine one.

This theater is to die for, and I would have enjoyed playing the show.  The production looked to be better than the one I played there several years ago, and the 22-piece orchestra (in a real pit -- imagine!) was excellent.

Here's the theater.  I took these ten years ago while playing in a production of WEST SIDE STORY.  (scroll down)

That's a beautiful theater, Chas!

I'm glad you enjoyed the show.  The theater is beautiful.  Didn't you mention you will be doing a show there in the near future?

Yes.  I'll be playing in RAGTIME in November.

I have yet to see RAGTIME.  A local high school did it a few years ago, and I'd heard that it was very good, but I couldn't get to it.  I was involved in a show that had performances on the same days.  I hate it when that happens.

The Vixter and I saw it last time it was on Broadway  - we had a meal with Elmore and Edisarus and her everlovin' Gregg that same day

and we loved it

I have the OBC of the show which is a favorite when we go on  extended car trips

we also saw the show at a local college  last year

I love the RAGTIME original Broadway cast album.  There are a couple of songs on the "Songs from Ragtime" CD that I like better than the versions on the Broadway cast album, but I understand that the changes are for dramatic reasons.  I haven't gotten the seven-track revival CD, but I love BK's "Ragtime: Themes From The Hit Musical" CD with Brad Ellis' Little Big Band. :D

Last week, I bought (at Costco) "Schindler's List" for only $9.99!  It's three discs...one Blu-ray, and two DVDs where the movie is split into two parts on the two DVDs.  It also comes with the digital download, which I'm downloading now.

I saw the national tour when it played San Antonio. It was right after I moved here and may have been my first visit to the Majestic. It was almost sold out, but I managed to snag a ticket in the very last row, about a mile above the stage. Didn't matter, the sound system as perfect. You could hear every singer plainly and above the music. The acting was wonderful, and I wasn't the only person in tears by the end of the evening.

I've always loved the book, which I may have read 7 or 8 times. But the show worked on emotional levels the book didn't hit. It was true to Doctorow's narrative, but the writers made it their own. I'd love to see it again.

Back from the show and then some food.

Tonight's Kritzerland show, for me, has entered the Kritzerland pantheon - just a magical evening with everything working perfectly. Big laughs, tears, and wonderful ovations throughout the evening - I can always tell how vocal an audience is going to be during my first patter, and tonight I knew they would be one of our best and most vocal audiences instantly. Our cast could not have been better: Dan Callaway (oh are we going to miss him!), Jennifer Kranz (her first time with us and delivering wonderfully), Heather Lee (stopping the show three times), Lisa Livesay (oh are we going to miss her!), and Shannon Warne (this woman is spectacular), and our special guest Kay Cole (always a treat and she was simply great), all accompanied by the amazing Tom Griep. Co-produced by the mighty Adryan Russ. And now, on to our fourth anniversary show!

Listening to Alban Berg's Lulu suite with Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra - I'm not in love with Berg or the suite, but boy is it well performed.  And now Im Sommerwind by Webern, which I like very much.

I remember when I was in college, I had to listen to the opera "Lulu" with Teresa Stratas.  I did not get it at all.  However, I listened to Philip Glass' "Satyagraha" and loved (and still love) that.

I know that they're very different styles from each other, but they're both very modern operas and I really hadn't heard much of that, at that time in my life.

Starting August 1st, the hours that my building is open were changed.  Since I had to leave work early anyway that day, the change didn't affect me then.

However, starting tomorrow, I will have to get to work at least an hour earlier than I've been getting there...for years.  An hour may not seem like a big deal (and really, it isn't), but I just don't want to have to get to work an hour earlier from now on. :P
