As those who've read Album Produced By know, I absolutely loved and was completely smitten with Miss Bacall from my one experience working with her and from our several phone conversations after.  I'll recount that story in the notes tonight.

With Humphrey Bogart being my all time favorite actor, I'm particularly saddened by the passing of Lauren Bacall.

I was never fortunate enough to meet her, but I did see her in WOMAN OF THE YEAR at the Dorothy Chandler in Los Angeles.  She was terrific.

And speaking of big -

Just back from the monthly outing to hear a live BIG BAND. They don't play standards, but charts by Minnesota composers.  Excellent group of 19 musicians!

Loved that story when I read the book.

Yesterday I made a couple of tuna sandwiches.  Unfortunately, I didn't have any of the ingredients, so they weren't very filling.

for me the ingredients would be tuna, bread, mayo.... you are correct without any of those ingredients the sandwiches would not be very filling

Went to a wake/memorial for a few friends, including Joyce, whom I wrote about a few weeks ago. There were some great stories about all of them. Her late husband, Walter, had fought at the Battle of the Bulge and apparently related a couple of stories about the horrors of that to a few of his closer friends.

As some of us were beginning to leave, this deluge swept down, with plenty of thunder and lightning accompanying the rain. So, we had to stay put for a while, meant another drink to the memories of Joyce, Walter, Louie and Charlie. While we were taking, the lights went out and the rain started to stream in overhead. It didn't bring a halt to the fun, which is the way they would have wanted it.

One of the women there is apparently 93, though she doesn't look it. She attributes her longevity to two Beefeater martinis a day and cross country skiing, which she does all winter apparently. When she goes, she's left it in her will that she wants Champagne poured at the funeral. And then she wants everyone there to divide up the rest of her liquor because her son doesn't drink.

I have this medical deferment from jury duty in September, but i can find nothing on the cockamamie summons - and there are phone numbers, web pages, and a lot of other crap - about what to do with a letter from one's doctor. The web page tells me to go to my country for further information. And there is nothing helpful there. I am very frustrated.

I'd call the phone number and ask.

you have apparently never attempted to call a government office in New York..... it is to laugh

Now Lauren Bacall has died.

I have told this story before.  When my Mom and my aunt came to New Jersey to visit me, they wanted to go see a show.  So I got us tickets to WOMAN OF THE YEAR.  I drove them to the Palace Theatre and then I went to park the car.  When I got back to the theater, they were all excited because Miss Bacall had arrived and stopped to chat with them.  After the show I went and got the car, and when I got back, apparently Lauren by this time, had come out and stopped to see if my mom and aunt had enjoyed the show.  Then she was afraid to leave them alone, so she got the security guard from next door to keep an eye on them until I got back.

At least I got to see her onstage.

On my way home tonight I saw a sign for the law firm from out of town that wanted me to be their local branch about a year ago.  Interesting.  So they now have an office here.  Instead of looking at it as real competition, I think it's just another piece of the puzzle falling into place.  Now my clients would have another good firm to go to when I get the new job and close the office :)

At least it's not a firm you're considering for employment. I'm still pondering if I should return the Packard humanities institute call from February.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good evening.

(Alfred Hitchcock says what?)

Back from a so-so rehearsal.  People out sick, etc.  Good riddance to it.

I just made tuna salad, following my Aunt Dorothy's recipe: celery, sweet relish, onion, chopped hardboiled egg, tuna and mayo.

That sounds good.  I haven't had it with the relish and hardboiled egg.  Well, maybe I have, but I never knew to put those in when I made it.  I also add some diced black olives.

Call them Elmore.  A call is not a commitment, it's just a call and you may decide whatever they have to say is worth it.

LOL< that's what my dad said when I told him I was applying. And what he said when my brother became a magistrate.  Keep those good vibes coming.  In one week I should know how many applicants and who they are.

If my timing had been any better, they would have announced that Miss Bacall's understudy would have been going on that night.
