My co worker is in vacation so I am covering  both of our desks and things have started turning busy -- not as busy  as in past years but busy enough   I am off to  Canada  in a week though so I'll not complain as she will have to deal with my files while I am away

TOD--  I don't know when I ever noticed  a character being  gay --- I remember seeing  The Children's hour as a young teen but it must have gone over my head ---

I remember see La Cage Aux Folles -  the original French movie at some point (in the late 70's?)

I have still never seen the Boys in the Band.... I don't know why...

Good morning, all! I'm happy to hear that the tempest on Long Island yesterday did not prevent DR Ben's and Anthony's departure this morning.

I will shortly head down to Toyland and schlep home some books and programs or CDs. I will spend some of the weekend putting the CDs back to their original home and wrestling books and the ladder. I need about 18 more feet of bookcases.

Yesterday, I had meant to finish up a Moross project and take a serious look at the existing materials for the Rodgers & Hart show Chee-Chee, but the day got eaten up with more New World Records Roberta requests - a promo blurb, photo decisions, and a discussion of the unreleased  2001-2002 McGlinn recordings of Kern and Herbert and the foundation that funded them. So, my curiosity running, I contacted the foundation and had a short spurt of messaging with the person now on that project. Who knows?

DR vixmom, I am happy to know you are okay, but I'm very sorry you have to deal again with a flooded basement and roads.

I think that's my news. More from Toyland.

Larry, hope something good comes out of the messaging!!

Thanks, DR George!  I also had this morning an interesting phone conversation with the dean of the School of Fine Arts at Miami University about some possibilities.

Driving home this evening NPR was running some program I was only half listening to, something about speakers... what caught my ear was the host saying something baout how  "big speakers' were once the sign of a serious music lover and the guest said a serious music lover  now whoudl be know  by his turntable and vinyl records for the most full and satisfying sound and I thought of Chas

I'm jealous too, although I have no idea what he looks like -- but I heard he cooks real purty

That's because Vixdad is not the one mopping it up with towels.

Luca is incapable of taking a bad picture. This  is not one of the best that I got of him.

The new Sherlock Holmes with Benedict Cumberbatch has arrived from the library. Finally get to see what BK was raving about when he watched them. The first episode is spectacular.

I still say Benedict Cumberbatch sounds like a character from Harry Potter.

Tonight is the finale of "Last Comic Standing."  There have been some very good comics this season.  I have an idea of who I think will probably win, but actually, I would prefer either of the other two to win.  The one guy is very good...they're all very good...but I just like the other two a little better.  We'll see how it all ends up!

Well, the guy who I thought would win, did.  He was good, but so were the other two.  Anyway, just by being on the show, they got some good exposure and it'll certainly help their careers...even the people who were eliminated earlier in the season.  There were a lot of good comics (fortunately, not a lot of not-so-good comics).

I guess maybe I'll take a shower even though I had one this morning - I really feel better showering after I've jogged.  I do think this week I have finally begun to lose the weight I gained - it's taken a really long time to kick in this go-round - I've been a very good boy for three weeks, but this week is the first time I am feeling it and when my pants have finally started to feel even a little less tight.

First time I noticed homosexuality…. Paul Lynd, he just didn't seem like other men on TV, he was so animated and gesticulating.  My mother and grandmother would always editorialize about whoever was on TV, so I figured that "boychick" meant gay.    Rock Hudson was a boy chick, I heard Cary Grant swung both ways.  A confirmed bachelor was suspect.   Then I started drawing conclusions --- that Max in "The Sound of Music" was probably gay too.
Of course, I thought Tiny Tim must be queer because he was just so weird.  But in fact he was quite straight.

Favorite films and scenes:   Laurence Olivier's scene  in "Spartacus" dealing with "oysters and snails" --- it was so pregnant with innuendo, but you couldn't actually SAY that Olivier was trying to seduce Tony Curtis.  The sensuality went over my head as a child, but as a young adult, it dawned on me.
Other films:   The Crying Game, Death in Venice, The Bird Carge (first saw the original La Cage aux Folles), and of course, the gay characters in "The Producers".
In literature I was always fascinated by the Truman Capote, Oscar Wilde, and their works.
I was also an avid reader of Armistead Maupin, the outrageously gay columnist who wrote San Francisco's "Tales of the City".
Thirty odd years ago gays in film and TV especially were clownish caricatures, sidekicks, and rarely more than 2 dimensional players cast comedically.
thank the gay rights movement, and social evolution for today's gay characters in TV, film and theatre who may be seen as fully realized and leading character,  not only as people we laugh with(at).
