Wednesday morning greetings!  My sister and I left Owensboro later yesterday than we'd intended and got to our house about 7:30pm.  I'm glad to be home and she will be, too, when she gets there today.

Best home remedy in the world for queasiness:

A teaspoon of peppermint spirits in a glass of ice water.  Sip slowly.  It's potent stuff.

Get it at the drugstore.  Ask the pharmacist if you don't see it.  (Reminds me, I'm almost out.)

Yes, DR ChasSmith, our trip was very worthwhile on both the genealogy front AND the Vera Bradley front  8)

Is anybody else having problems with this site?

I write a message, but then it seems to take forever for the message to actually post.

I'm not having this problem with any other sites that I visit, so...

Good morning, all!

I was feeling lazy, so I lazed about until 8:15 or so. I've got a 1:00 luncheon date with Lanny Meyers at Arties, which I very much look forward to, and my Moross work here.

DR Michael Shayne, you are welcome.

I've had no actual failures logging in or posting, but the site's been notably sluggish for the past week or so.  Pages can take a long time to load, in a jerky slow motion.  Posts, likewise, will hang before finally going through.  It's something that started being noticeable at some point several days ago, and it's stuck around since.

I was looking around on television last night for something to watch, and I came across QUIZ SHOW.  It was just beginning, so I thought I would watch it again.

I like the movie....although - like SAVING MR BANKS - it's got some fictional moments....but I like all of the actors and the story.  It's probably my favorite Ralph Fienes performance.

I then went to YouTube and watched the entire 21 episode that had Van Doren defeating Stempel......sort of recreated in the movie.  Stempel DID "miss" an answer by saying "On the Waterfront" instead of "Marty" - but that did not end the game.  He answered another question. The game ended when - by the rules - Van Doren (not knowing Stempel's score) chose to end the game when Van Doren was at 18 points and Stempel was at 10 points.

If he had ended the game, and Stempel was ahead, Van Doren himself would have lost.....

DR John G, you asked for it!

PIE
Lyrics by Anne Caldwell
Music by Jerome Kern

There’s no chance for disputation, as a freedom loving nation
Not a country can compare with our beloved U.S.A.
For the national convention in this land of prohibition
Is as free and as untrammeled as Siberia, they say.
They’ve put the ban on cigarettes, deprived us of our race track bets,
The day of steins and pails of suds is gone.
They  give us laws we long to break, but we refuse to let them take
The thing our constitution built upon.

And that is Pie Pie Pie!
We could never do without it if we try;
It put New England on the map
And what the deuce would Charlie Chap-
lin do without his face encrusted in a custard badly busted
Pie Pie Pie!
We can do without our Bourbon and our rye
Though it musses up his collar,
Every freeborn Yank will holler
For his Pie Pie Pie!

So when foreigners linguistic say that we are not artistic,
Just invite them to the Automat and introduce the gang!
Then let somebody sic 'em on a slab of gooey lemon,
Hiding coyly camouflaged beneath dental proof meringue!
When they’ve their molars sunk in a delicious squishious punkin
And with ecstasy their vests begin to swell.
Until at last they grapple with the good old-fashioned apple,
Just surprise them with a good old college yell!

Lemon, Apple, Pumpkin, Squash
Peach and Custard, oh my gosh!
Prune and Apricot and Quince
Cherry, Coconut and Mince
Plum and Raisin Currant, too,
Every pie that you can chew!
Blackberry, Strawberry, Cranberry, Gooseberry
Mulberry, Huckleberry, Blueberry, Elderberry
Whortleberry, Raspberry, Raspberry, Raspberry
Rah! Rah! Rah!

Pie Pie Pie!
We could never do without it, should we try
And Calvin Coolidge has to own
Himself a native of the zone,
Where all the morning coffee drinkers alternate with prunes and sinkers
Pie Pie Pie!
At the White House they must keep a a big supply;
In the great big open spaces,
Real he-men fill up their faces
Full of Pie Pie Pie!

And for DR John G.'s further reading pleasure:

Brisket is Worth the Wait
"Brisket, part of the Texas Trinity of barbecue, has been enthusiastically embraced by New Yorkers..."

And because we didn't have quite enough Vera Bradley, my sister and I stopped at the new outlet store in Simpsonville, KY:
