I guess I didn't need to rush the gifts off to little Elinor.  Her mother is still pregnant even though her due date has passed.  I just adore the conversation her mother put on FB today:

Me: "Elinor, I don't know about you, but I'm tired of waiting for this baby to come."
Eli: "I'm not. The baby will get most of the attention."

So now that I finally have my new driver's license, this morning I was finally able to get my new public library card!

Yipppeeeee!

Congrats, Sing!  Just remember...with great power comes great responsibility.  READ RESPONSIBLY!

Or not. ;)

Tonight, I will have the pleasure of hearing Nathan Gunn, baritone, in recital. I suspect that he will not be dressed like this, however. But one can always hope.

Not to be too gross, but this morning I managed to dislodge two disconcertingly large chunks of ear wax. I know that your sense of balance is contained within the inner ear, and they must have been pressing there, because once they came out, I got terribly dizzy.

It finally subsided enough that I felt safe to drive to the pharmacy. When I asked about over-the-counter aids to combat nausea, the pharmacist suggested ginger or flat coca-cola. I decided to purchase some generic dramamine. So far, it doesn't seem to be making much of a difference.      :P

The funny thing is that Nathan played Billy Bigelow in the NY Philharmonic concert presentation of Carousel; his real-life wife (who is accompanying him tonight on the piano) is named Julie Jordan.

And the word of the day is: WHEEDLE!

The only other time I've ever heard this word used:

Quote
There were these two, you see,
Wanted her like mad,
One of 'em a judge,
T'other one his beadle.
Every day they'd nudge
And they'd wheedle.
Still she wouldn't budge
From her needle.
Too bad. Pure thing.

;D

Lorenz Hart uses it in his lyrics for "I Beg Your Pardon" in DEAREST ENEMY:
I’m sure I beg your pardon,
I must withdraw my hand,
I’ve not planned to be wheedled,
So don’t misunderstand.

Well...umm...I...umm..."wheedled" is not the same as "wheedle", so it's still the only time that I've heard the word "wheedle".

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it. ::)

DR Singdaw I would have expected dizziness to go away, not arrive.  I hope you are feeling better.  I prefer Bonine as it is chewable and I have more control over how much I take.  I've only used it for motion sickness but I have known doctors to recommend Bonine or Dramamine as you are using it.

I imagine Nathan will be dressed like that some time during the day today, just probably not during the recital.

Soda crackers work for me DR SINGDAW.

Unsalted matzos works better for me.

Sipping soda should be done in occasional small sips.

Back from a lovelier than lovely lunch meeting with Sandy and Michael Sterling, then picked up some packages, including the new Blu and Ray of Sundays and Cybele - tonight's viewing - in fact, maybe today's viewing, since I won't get home until after nine from the radio show.

Playbill.com has an article PHOTO SPECIAL: A Perfect Pair?: The 10 Side Show Twosomes We'd Love to See, where they Photoshop other people into the Side Show Playbill.  Look at this one...I think someone's a fan of BK's hidden bonus tracks!

DR stingjaw:  Sometimes, dizziness is simply a state of being and owes no allegiance to ear wax.

I think you should do a handstand and then see what happens.

The few times I tried Dramamine for going out on a friend's boat, it never did much for me.  Even if it did, in fact, prevent a touch of seasickness (I always eventually got used to it and would gain my sea legs after several hours or a day or more), it gave me a weird feeling in the head.  Or something.  I don't remember too clearly and haven't tried it in years.  Of course that's mainly because I finally learned to stay off the damned water!   :)

The ginger or Coca-Cola suggestions are what would appeal to me.

I don't like the side effects of meds for motion sickness, even natural ginger pills bother me.  Sometimes not using something is far worse.

Haha, others have suggested the same thing. I did check. But scrapbooks are 12X12 and the scissors are 14 inches. So they would not fit in there.

Well, I must be off.  Several of us on the Theater Artists Olympia board are having a meeting to plan our second annual "TAO of the Dead" fund raiser.  It'll be on November 1, which is the Day of the Dead...get it?? ;)

Be back later!
