This morning I went for a walk, and I forgot to take my camera with me.

We are enjoying the remains of  Hurricane Javier, who wandered in from the Pacific coast.  Rain always makes the purple sage bloom. It didn't even hit 100F here today -- a very nice day!

Evening all!

I enjoyed the pictures of the reading.  I have GOT to get me one of those picture taking phones!  I have a bad case of tech envy! :)

I did get the new printer/copier/scanner but I haven't have time to connect it to the computer.

I also bought a new chair for my computer desk but I will be taking it back.  It felt wonderful in the store but when I got it home, it didn't fit the desk.  I have it as low as it will go but  my feet can't touch the floor!  It was fine in the store.

After talking about The Sword and the Sorcerer  this morning,  I did a little search and found it is available on DVD.  Yay! I'm looking forward to seeing that one again.

I can't keep up with all the new releases.

I read somewhere that DVD's will go the way of the VHS tapes in less than ten years so I wonder if it's even worth it to buy all these movies.  If memory serves correctly, did you know that Circuit City is going to stop selling VHS tapes after January?  I know it's sometime in the not to distant future.

Matt, you read the book about Prince Tom?  Did you like it?

I was looking at the menu for Joe Allen's.  I don't see the dish I ordered when I was there with Elmore.  It was a wonderful chicken with sweet potato on the side.  Yummy!  If I ever make it back up that way I would like to have it again!

Ben, and other New Yorkers, I have heard so much about the yummy  tofu at Ollie's and the Westside Cottage sounds good. Convenience and ambience are also important.  We do want to relax and carry on a conversation. I shall let you locals decide where to eat.  I saw plenty to eat at Joe Allen’s and should probably experience this special restaurant.  I found plenty to choose from, including the gingerbread cake for dessert.  I will also eat salmon if there isn’t tofu.

Just tell me where and the time.  But please, someone make a reservation.  :D

I am looking forward to meeting the NY gang.  :)

Watched "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" today from the new Hitchcock box set.  I STILL laughed out loud at one of the most beautifully realized scenes I first burst a gut viewing the only time I saw this film.  The restaurant scene is one of the most subtle builds I can recall in a screwball comedy.  (Salt shaker in napkin?)   <G>

Marching onward....

Got through two chapters in "Angels In America."
I saw the original HBO series...but GOD what language both "words" and "film."

When did Mike Nicholas start to use those ariel shots in his opening credits....(I know Working Girl and Birdcage...but was it ALWAYS a thing with him?).  Beautiful across from Golden Gate to the statue down up and under...and then the statue moves.

And a GREAT shot from a hotel bar....out through the window into the park past various bodies having uhhh....well....see the film....

Beautiful play realized on film...with performances that should kick ass tomorrow at the Emmys.

DR Jose's posts have been an inspiration for all vehicle challenged Los Angelenos.

But has he had the chance to snap a pix of the Allison Hayes house?   <G>

His food, shopping and transit riding posts...ring like CHIMES to those who think that you can't get here.  But then I seldom get east of the 405 in my little mecca near Santa Monica.  (Some by choice...some by time...others...by...err...other).  <G>

Isn't it amazing that not a single one of the marvelous songs from the score of SNOW WHITE was nominated for a Best Song Oscar! Was this a revolt against cartoon songs getting nominations or did the music branch actually think the songs nominated were all vastly superior to the SNOW WHITE songs? Many of those songs made the Hit parade, so it couldn't be that they were looked down on. I've never read an adequate explanation as to why that score was overlooked.

ICE STATION ZEBRA

RANDOM HARVEST

KING SOLOMON'S MINES (1950)

IVANHOE

I know things have been very ugly at Disney with Eisner there for some time, but to the general public, I doubt they'll notice much difference whether he's there or not.

BTW, saw the trailer for Pixar/Disney's THE INCREDIBLES coming in November, and it looks like a hoot.

After I finished the documentary on the STAGE FRIGHT DVD, I reached for the top DVD off the stack thinking it was FOREIGN CORRESPONDENT. The room was dark so I just assumed that's what would start playing. Much to my surprise it was YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES I had picked up instead. Not a great film, but certainly looks wonderful on DVD.

The ratings for the MISS AMERICAN PAGEANT have been falling for over a decade now, and trying new things on the show this year didn't make it any better. (My mom and I used to watch it religiously every year).

One sure sign that it's not considered a primo special any more: ABC didn't broadcast it in high definition.
