From DR John:
Quote
In one of the church scenes, sitting behind Shirley MacLaine.

I wish I still had the DVD to go back and look.

I'm reading more about Bernie now.  I hadn't known about about his release.  I found an interesting article written by Marge's niece. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/film/9243732/How-my-wicked-aunts-murder-became-a-Shirley-Maclaine-comedy.html  That woman truly was a horror.

Thanks for the reminder.  I keep forgetting to watch this on Netflix.

I'm visible for little more than a nanosecond, but I can see me.

Lazy day.  I tried the new (to me) barbecue jernt.  Had a side of three baby back ribs and a pulled pork sandwich, all of which, while not quite up to the Kansas City Barbecue, were excellent.  The sauce is on the sweet side, but again not quite as good as the KCB.  But the best was the side of mac-and-cheese - spectacular.  I'll be back.

Yum.

Back from a really good show (or really good shew, if it were Ed Sullivan announcing it).  This audience was populated with a number of obvious AVENUE Q aficionados who tended to laugh BEFORE their favorite lines ... but hey, we'll take it.

Just back from ushering at the symphony. They did Mahler's Second and the performance was genuinely thrilling. I had goosebumps in the last five minutes and they kept growing until the end.

I was up in the balcony, the only usher for 400 or so seats, which were not supposed to be sold. I was told there were five tickets sold, but it was actually almost filled. I did a lot of running. But I did manage to get a box seat to sit in. During the third movement I looked up and saw someone at the back with a green light. Thinking it was someone using an iPad to tape the show -- a no-no that we're supposed to watch for -- I quietly made my way up there only to discover that they had positioned the four French horns who are supposed to be off-stage up there.

Watching a bootleg of "Inventing Mary Martin" with Jason Graae and Emily Skinner. Fun.

I was to play the organ part in the last few minutes of the Mahler 2nd (this was in 1968), when all power to the organ was lost and we had to do without.

It didn't matter much, because it turned out that Herr Mahler had scored the thing so brilliantly that the organ wasn't much missed.  And I have the recording of that concert to prove it.

Here's a fun interview with Flaherty and Ahrens about the film version of "Lucky Stiff."

I wonder if the concert tonight included an organ. If so, I missed it.
