In 1968 my father took me to see the motion picture Paper Lion at the late Atwater Cinema. Sometime during the running of the film they stopped it and the lights came up. Many policemen and firemen came in with flashlights looking under the many seats. At that period of time in the history of Quebec and Montreal there were a lot of bomb threats and actually bombings. I remember we watched the rest of the film standing at the back of the cinema. My mother gave my father the riot act for not talking me out of there and right home.

This is funny.  I suppose you wanted to see the end of the movie.

I took all of my younger brothers and sisters to see a movie....probably BENJY or BIGFOOT.....my brother Dane was sitting between my sister Myrna and I.

I went to hand Myrna her Coke - in a nice paper cup with ice - Dane was leaning up in his chair....just as my hand got behind him, he leaned back.

The Coke went all over him, and he was wearing the ice like a dunce cap.....the entire theatre was most amused....

TOD:

I was in a theater watching "Gladiator".   It is one of those theaters that has a cup holder and I had a large soda in the one by my seat.  I had my jacket over the back of the seat.   I got up for a quick trip to the men's room.   When I returned, a woman was in my seat.

I approached her and said, "You're in my seat."  She looked at me suspiciously and said, "There are plenty of other seats in this theater that are unoccupied."

"Yes," I agreed, "but those seats don't have my soda in the cup holder and my jacket on the back of the seat.  The one you are in DOES have those things."

She jumped up and scurried away.

In today's world she probably would have thrown your drink at you.

My mother went to the emergency room this morning. Continued dizziness.....everything is fine...she just needs to keep hydrated and rest....which she can do.

VIBES TO YOUR MOTHER!

Update.

I woke up this morning in more pain than usual. Called out from work. Was able to see my knee doctor. Somehow a crack in the bone developed from the last time a MRI was taken in July (or the MRI didn't pick it up)

I am now out of work and off my feet for the next 4 weeks. They've order me a walker and a wheelchair.

Life sucks sometimes

That sounds painful.  VIBES IT HEALS!!!!

My book group discussion of ME BEFORE YOU this morning ran later than usual as it led us into talking about coping with these medical setbacks as we all get older.  On of our members had a stroke a couple of years ago and has to use a walker.  I know DR TCB can relate to her comments of how people respond to her now.

We had a theater downtown called the Olympic - I went quite often when I was at LACC - three movies for under a buck and always older movies from the late 50s/early 60s but not a revival house.  They showed Auntie Mame one week - with the reels out of order - it was surreal but not as surreal as the guy who died while it was showing.

T.O.D.

I can't really think of anything, other than being stuck in the theater when the original Columbus Day Storm hit.  I will always remember Mr. Spencer. the theater owner, standing in front of the exit doors, screaming, "No one leaves here, until they have called their parents and their parents have come to pick them up."

I guess we were lucky that we had no orphans in the theater, or kids who had parents that were out of town.

The theater owner was using his brains.   I'm glad you didn't have a repeat of that storm last night.

DR Vixmom,

Thank you!

My scrapbooking scissors arrived today.  They are pretty much exactly the same as the ones that went missing.  I tried them out and they seem to work well. Yippee!

Interesting movie theater stories.  I can't think of any unusual experiences, not even when I worked at the theater.  I will ask Keith if he has any.  At the moment he is mowing the lawn.

Made an Osgood pie today. It's kind of like fruitcake pie without the nasty candied fruit (only raisins) in it. Plus pecans.

Back from a wonderful and productive meeting with Sandy.  The best part was Doug Haverty had eighteen cover designs for us to look at - all good, but two really stood out for Sandy and me, and one of them in particular.  So, I think that one will be the cover and a couple of others are fantastic and will absolutely be the back cover or the front cover of the booklet inside or the inlay card.

MBarnum is gone.  So silly and I'll write him one more time only.  This stuff just baffles me - if you don't like what someone is posting, move on.  And yet he'll remain on Facebook, where every other post is completely stupid, offensive, untrue and jerky.  That he can skip, apparently.

When Keith was the assistant manager at the Studio Theater we had an after hours party with a mystery theme.  Keith & a few other people turned the theater, using the lighting & sound system, into a fun house.

I want to state it again, even though it's sooooo obvious.  We're all different people.  Occasionally there are postings here that are irksome in one way or another - guess what?  I pay them no mind and move on.  I don't take them personally should they not happen to jibe with my thinking, I just read and move on or skip them entirely.  The fact that people make their new home Facebook is more sickening to me than anything - that bastion of obnoxious, thoughtless, mind-numbingly idiotic place where people behave in ways that they would never do in front of people, posting any and everything without checking its veracity (90% of the time usually fake or false), posting completely unacceptable photos of horrible things and on and on and on.  All the while gathering all your information and sharing it with the world.  I would remind everyone that we were here long before Facebook and we will probably be here long after - My Space anyone - people are already tired of the Facebook crap.  In the last two weeks along seven people I know have shut down their accounts and who can blame them.

I have written my final PM to MBarnum - he can do whatever he wants because I've just had it with this silliness and it IS silliness.  And of course the posts he was offended by could have been easily skipped and we've had much worse on this board.  Blechhh, I say.

TOD:

I think I've mentioned this story before, but I missed the first 15 minutes of "The Queen" in 2007 because a dispute between two movie theatre patrons became so incensed, and starting drawing in those around them, with yelling and screaming, that the whole theatre became embroiled in it. With all the yelling, the movie was drowned out. Finally one (or both) of the parties was removed by the management (to the applause of the rest of us), but they refused to start the movie over.

After that, I vowed to watch movies only at home, and I have pretty much stuck to that.

DR Jrand I hope the ginger pills work.  I took them for our first cruise and stopped because they dried my mouth out.

Sad to say, they didn't seem to help me much, but I wish much better luck for your mother. The dizziness and nausea eventually did go away on their own, but...    no fun.

Bruce it is true there is a lot of crap on facebook, however, we can remove or block people if we find them too annoying.  We can also hide conversations.
