Went to a Half Price Books this morning for the Black Friday rush. Got there 15 minutes early and was not among the 110 first customers to receive a gift bag. But I did find gifts for three people, so I'm glad of that. And a couple of books for myself, of course.

And what might I be stuffed with, you ask?

Lots of little appetizer thingies throughout the day, and then the usual stuff, but all lovingly and carefully prepared:  turkey, sage sausage and cranberry and apple stuffing (mine), mashed potatoes, gravy drenching all of the above, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce (mine), green bean/crispy onion ring casserole, tossed salad (mine), and garlic bread (mine).

There was also a pasta course because, well, with a couple of these people there is always a pasta course.  Cavatelli and a wonderful homemade marinara in which was cooked meatballs, sausage, and pepperoni.  I was careful to only have a three-bite helping of this, as it is very filling and I would have been stuffed before I got to the stuffing.

There were half a dozen of us and this was a group effort.  My contributions went over smashingly.  My own libation of choice was a nouveau beaujolais which, after years of ignoring them, I'm very much enjoying now as a light accompaniment to this meal.

Desserts were pumpkin pie, apple pie, whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, and tiramisu -- and believe it or not, I had not one bite of any of it, I was so stuffed.  There's that word again.  I had a cup of coffee, and that was that for me.  But there are leftovers galore, and I shall set to them today, with gusto.

Chas would you be willing to share your recipes for apple stuffing and cranberrry sauce?

Yes'm!  The latter is simple -- I followed the instructions on the Trader Joe's 12-oz. package of cranberries.  Bring one cup of water and a cup of sugar to a boil, reduce to simmer, add the cranberries, cook for ten minutes or so till a number of them have popped.  Chill.  Eat.

I used two packages, so doubled the recipe.  What I didn't think of in advance was the option of using orange juice instead of water, and I do love me some orange in my cranberry.  Next time!

The stuffing recipe was a put-together from multiple recipes, so I'll get it together later and post it.

My ex sister in-law made delicious buttermilk bisquits.  I want to get the recipe.  She also made an excellent stuffing.  I never make stuffing anymore so it was a treat.  My brother cooked the turkey but we didn't have any.

Good morning, all!

I could not get to sleep last night, so I stayed up far too late reading Paul Ford's deliciously lowdown gossipy book on his life in the theatre. It's currently a sprawling draft, and I have no idea if it will ever be published, but it's one helluva good read. Knowing Paul, I know it's all true.  He told me the RAGS stories at the time of the original production. So, I stayed up far too late and got ut of bed later than I had intended.

I must run to the bank and get to work.  Joshie has changed my Paint Your Wagon deadline to Dec. 15 and I'm still in Act One!

The rental materials for She Loves Me are now, I believe, the puny Roundabout revival version with a small band, and it's all digitized. The handwritten piano-conductor score and parts of the original production are only rented now on special occasion, I believe.

Oy!  I remember that puny sound -- if that's the production I saw at the Virginia (?).  Well, this is a small space, so of course that's the one they'd be doing.

Friday morning greetings!  I was beyond tired last night, went to sleep before 10, and slept for about 10 hours.  Not sure what's happening today, but I'm sure it will involve the out-of-town relatives and food.  Richard and I are expecting someone from the garage door company to come and, probably, install a new opener.

TOD:

We started watching THE AFFAIR on Showtime last night.  The first 2 episodes were quite well done, so we will stick with it.

I also have the final season of MAVERICK, which I might start viewing this weekend,

Has anybody  here that  did the Kickstarter for Herringbone hear when our cds will be shipped?

The only thing I heard is that all the Kickstarter donors got an invitation to the party on Monday.
