Last night's performance of "The HEAD! That Wouldn't Die!" went off without a hitch AND we had a fairly decent sized audience...more than the night before! With the new configuration, we only have about 36 or 37 seats, as opposed to the 42 that we had before, but it's a better configuration for this show, so we'll live with fewer seats.

I think that the first PETER PAN I saw was the Disney animated movie...or the Mary Martin telecast, whichever came first.

My younger brother (by 5 years) was fixated on Peter Pan. My mother even made him a Peter Pan costume and he used to run around the house in it all the time.

He was 30.

Good morning, all! I will be off to Toyland momentarily. I've not been there in nearly two weeks and I will schlep home more items. I need to use the scanner there to send some Moross corrections to my co-editor.

When i'm back, i'll finish up the Entr'Acte for Paint Your Wagon and jump into "Hand me Down that Can of Beans." I have nine days to finish Act Two.

I saw the first Peter Pan broadcast in 1955 as well as the second in 1956. I had already seen and loved the 1953 Disney version. I don't believe I got the recording of the Mary Martin OBC until I got a 3-speed record player for Christmas in 1956.

A strange thing is that people who Kickstarted are not seeming to be getting the CD earlier than those who pre-ordered from Amazon or some place like that.

The Kickstarter donors who are in the NY area and were able to come to the party were treated to quite an elegant do, with extraordinary efficient waiter service and food that came from the very best of the dishes from the 44 and X restaurant, and were handed their copy of the CD, so for the folks in the NYC area, it looks like BD and the label more than came through with flying colors. A couple of Kickstarter donors had even trained in from Vermont and said enthusiastically that they were very happy with the whole event.

Hoping they can think of something "extra" to give, for the benefit of the Kickstarter donors who live away from the city, though.

Even if whatever that "extra" could be comes later, hoping they think of something.

I first saw Peter Pan on one of its many annual rebroadcasts with Marty Martin.

Then I saw The Flying Sequence that was part of Jerome Robbins' Broadway and it was magical.

Then I saw Cathy Rigby in Montreal on one of tours. Was reviewing it for my radio at the time. Her amazing spins and tumbles and athletic prowess made it amazing and wish it would go on longer.

When it was later taped for A & E when it was an "Arts & Entertainment" network they digitally removed the wires. The broadcast was a shorten version and the home video version was complete. I know it was filmed in a theater but can't remember if there was audience present or not.

When I watched the complete 1952 London Cast (with some replacements) of South Pacific it was done without an audience. It was strange at time because they performed it as if there was audience and would hold for a moment as if they were waiting for applause and then went on.

It was great to see Mary Martin in one of her iconic roles.

I first saw Peter Pan with Mary Martin on television.....probably the 1960 version....

BUT there was an episode of MAKE ROOM FOR DADDY wherein Danny (a widower) had taken Rusty and Terry (this was 1955 or so) to see PETER PAN on Broadway, and Rusty started sitting in his window waiting for Peter Pan to come and get him.....I don't remember what the resolution was.....but that was the first time I had ever heard of it.

I think at one time I saw the Walt Disney movie, but it didn't like it much.

TOD - I must have seen one of the early Mary Martin broadcasts in the fifties because I remember watching it in the living room of the home we left in 1959. I was an adult, and parent, before I saw the Disney version, which paled in comparison. Middletown's Summer Youth Theatre did PETER PAN with Leanna Renee Hieber in the title role. It was one of the best high school musicals I've ever seen. That's my only experience with a stage version.

Ed Gaynes was not in the 1955 broadcast, I don't think. I think he was in the color broadcast.
