We will be leaving for Long Island in a couple of hours where we plan to do very little. It's been a long year and I'm looking forward to the down time.

I usually call my family in Minnesota on Christmas day and we play pass the phone so Uncle Ben can talk to everyone. This year I'm taking my new tablet and which has Skype so we will do a video chat instead of phone. I've tested everything and systems are go for Skype on Christmas Day (a new song title if ever I heard one).

I had an endless dream about working on a production of Leonard Bernstein's CANDIDE.

It's a regular Tuesday.  It seems like it should be different somehow.

Theatre in 2014?  I saw INVENTING MARY MARTIN at the York and GUYS & DOLLS at Carnegie Hall, along with the three Encores! shows, but I don't recall seeing anything else.

Tuesday morning greetings!  Woke up at 6am, thinking about my to-do list, so I got up, had a cup of coffee, and started doing some of the things that were on my mind.

My endless dream was about my upcoming involvement in a small production of SHE LOVES ME.

Coffee!

I bought Herringbone from Amazon and also on iTunes.

If the Kickstarter copy arrives, great. If not, I'm still glad that I supported the project.

Speaking of recordings...

A surprising and fun thing happened yesterday as I was sorting through some records (of the vinyl variety).  I knew I'd had one of these, but discovered I have both:  BK's "Stages" and "Together Again", acquired long ago when I was actively collecting (or just plain accumulating) records.  The latter was a still-sealed copy, which I kind of hated opening but of course I did.  I fired up the record cleaning machine, cleaned those babies, and spun me some wax.  Both were in perfect condition, but I couldn't believe how nice they sounded.  The quality of the vinyl, especially is amazing.  And you know what?  That young man can sing.    :)

I'm glad these are in such beautiful condition -- both the jackets and the discs, which now reside in modern protective sleeves.  I have the Kritzerland CD, but the real fun is playing these.  I guess I never got "Nudie Musical" on vinyl, but maybe I'll do that now, too.  It's about time I caught up with the 1970s, don't you think?

EDIT:  In reviewing BK's notes on the CD, I see that the "Stages" mix wasn't considered good, and "Together Again" is completely dry.  I agree with the latter, but I did like "Stages".  What I'll have to do soon is put both the LPs and CD and enjoy a direct A/B test.

TOD:

We only went to the theatre once this year.  We saw an excellent production of THE KING AND I at the ZACH here in Austin.

TOD - Most of our theatre-going was in NYC in April and November, but we did see 2 productions by Middletown Lyric Theatre this year:  100 SAINTS YOU SHOULD KNOW in January and SIDE BY SIDE BY SONDHEIM in September.

New York highlights include 2 ENCORES! productions, JERSEY BOYS in which we knew the swing who was on that night as Bob Crewe, and (of course) 2 Kritzerland shows.

Ketchuping a bit with yesterday, DR Ginny's kitchen work looks wonderful.  I'd imagine it felt really nice getting up and seeing it this morning.

My turntable is connected to my surround sound system, so there is really no way to adjust the treble, bass, and other knobs that used to be on the stereo console, so the sound is what it is for me.....

I enjoyed being in ACHILLES/ACHILLES SON this year.  I also saw a very nice production of PARADE.

I liked directing GUYS & DOLLS this time around....and I loved being in THE MAN WHO CAME TO DINNER.

DR Jrand64, you might have control over bass and treble, etc., buried in a menu somewhere (I think mine are), but I agree that's ludicrous, and an impediment to even wanting to try!  However, I fortunately haven't felt the need to make such adjustments for years now.  My former stereo amp (a nice one) let me bypass those circuits, and I got used to trusting the recordings and the rest of my system to produce the best balanced sound.  My speakers are known for a particularly "flat" response, anyhoo.

Do you play your records over surround sound?  I don't.  I can play around with different settings when in the mood, and sometimes those can be fun and sound kind of impressive.  But I have my turntable and tape inputs set for two-channel stereo (with a little help from the subwoofer).  And when I play a CD on the Blu-ray player, I change the audio to stereo.

I think they have started celebrating too early at Victoria's Secret.  There was just a commercial on television that said all panties are 50% off.
