Topic of the Day:  I don't know if I've ever been to a real circus...traveling carnival, yes, but not a circus.

My parents used to take me regularly to Ringling Brothers when I was a kid. I used to buy the souvenir program and spend weeks after the event poring over it.

But now I realize how impoverished I was, since Ringling Brothers did not feature The Flying Spoons, as any circus worth its name should do.

DR Slingshot, Soundcloud was easy; I still do not understand youtube's inner works at all.  What I do not like about Soundcloud is that once the selection finishes, all my uploaded tracks are available. That should be private. Perhaps I need to learn what parameters to set up.

About every year in the 1950s and early 1960s a rather tatty, third-rate circus arrived in Middletown and usually set up in a large piece of abandoned farm land not from from my Aunt Ruth's home.  My cousins, my brothers, and I spent some time touring the grounds, buying cotton candy and watching everyone and everything.  We never saw a performance; we grew up poor.

I do recall, like the rodeo, that when I was very young, I was in the audience, but I was s young that for years after I could never tell if it were a dream or reality.

The Shriners Circus would come to the original Montreal Forum. It was a three ring circus. That's all I remember

Wow!

The Flying Spoons!

BK, your talents are endless.

Perhaps there's a song there?  Even a full Broadway musical?

TOD:

I went to a couple of circuses when I was a kid, but they didn't make much of an impression on me.

I was never a circus fan.

I didn't even like THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH, the worst movie to even win the Best Picture Oscar.

Monday morning greetings!  Busy day today - lunch with a Cincinnati friend who has a carload of books to donate to AAUW and then our February AAUW meeting tonight.  We're meeting at our new-ish hospital for remarks from the CEO followed by a mini-tour of the facility.

Good morning, all.

Coffee!

And, sadly, the last cinnamon roll.  But there will be more.  Trust me on that.  Get us through this snowstorm, and I promise you, everything will be coming up cinnamon rolls.

TOD

I vaguely remember being taken to one (probably small) circus as a kid, but it's possible that there were a few more that I simply don't remember at all.  As much as I loved carnivals and fairs, I never warmed up to the circus.

I dearly love BARNUM, the musical.  But I, too, have never been able to sit through THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH.  I don't recall other circus movies, pro or con, at the moment.  You couldn't drag me to a super-circus, and you'd have to put me in the Clockwork Orange chair to get me to watch one on TV.

TOD - we went to the Shrine Circus at the Michigan State Fairgrounds Coliseum.  That venue is famous for the 1962 accident that killed several members of The Flying Wallendas.  We weren't there for that, fortunately, but I do remember seeing Clyde Beatty, the lion tamer.  The big finish was some guy being shot out of a cannon.  Mostly, I remember the cotton candy.

We need pictures from the Robby Awards.

I watched the Bafta Awards instead of the Gramma Awards last night.  The Baftas were most entertaining, although the final surprise moment was spoiled by some old cow who had come out just before the give an honorary award.  MOOOOOOOO......

Perhaps if I had been introduced to The Flying Spoons at an early age, things would be different now.  I'm depraved on account of I was deprived.

I have never been to a circus.....a carnival, yes.....but not an actual circus.  I have seen many on television of course.

On Friday nights on NBC there used to be a circus program that went to different European circuses that was sometimes interesting.  However it was on that show that I first saw and developed an intense hatred for the horrible clown in the capri leg pantsuit with the pointy hat.  I guess he's known as the European White Face.

TOD:

When I was a kid, I wanted to like the circus, but it bored me, except for the horse and rider act. Hated the clowns. Still hate the clowns. Instead of sending them in, send them away.

I liked Fellini's movie "The Clowns" because of how perverse it was. He says in his narration that he made the movie because people told him it's a natural subject matter for him, but then he says he hates clowns and proceeds to show how unfunny they are.
