I have always used 2 spaces after a period.  But I took typing lessons on a typewriter.  I find it looks too squished with only one space.  But I've been noticing a few people on HHW only use one space.  Interesting.

I heard it has something to do with political orientation! ???

As long I can stuck in two bran muffins, that's all I care about!

One space, two spaces! It's a... tie that I can take off! 8)

DR Jane, you could definitely wear jeans to the theatre and nobody would look twice.  But I would encourage you not to do so.  You don't have to wear a dress.  But you don't get to NYC often.  And I think going to these couple of shows will be a big deal for you.  So try to look nice.

I know a lot of people disagree with me.  And I have lightened up a lot since my first trips to NYC.  My sis and I used to dress up EVERY single night.  Because it was special to us.  Now I won't wear a dress or skirt.  But I still won't go in jeans.  I want to show the performers and those around me that I think going to the theatre, especially in NYC is significant to me.  And I would never even consider looking like a slob.

(not that DR Jane would in jeans).

Who knows?
Jane MAY look like a slob in jeans!

And if you really want to dress up the jeans, wear a nice pair of heels (don't have to be high - just not sneakers).

I have seen Dear Reader Jane in jeans and trust me, she couldn't have looked less like a slob.

Jane, I answered your e-mail but will answer here as well.  I wore dresses when I went out at night in NYC but I carried 2 suitcases and a roll on board.

I did see people in jeans.

DRFRANCOIS congratulations on your celebrity encounter.  I love to hear about them....and of course MR BK and DR CP were surrounded by them today.....rubbing elbows with celebrities until their elbows were raw, no doubt.

Ok, let’s clarify that.  I didn’t carry them, they had wheels.  One was a big honking suitcase, the other was a suit bag and a roll on board.   And I was worried I didn’t have enough!

DR Jane, I would occasionally wear jeans to the theatre, especially on weeknights.  I would, however, dress them up with a blazer, and even a tie on occasion (sorry Keith!).  On occasion I would dress them up even more with pearls, a brooch and a tiara, but only for specific shows.  ;)

In other words (oooh, a Frank Loesser reference!),  real New Yorkers wear jeans to the theatre, so you should not feel uncomfortable.

I do, however, draw the line at wearing shorts to the theatre.  And wearing sandals anywhere.  I despise sandals almost as much as that woman in Marketing/Communications who is telling me that I should only be using one space after the end of a sentence!

For some reason, Outlook isn't sending the e-mail I sent to you, Jane.   It's still in the out box.

JRand I’m sure my jeans and jacket will draw less attention than that outfit.  ;D I’m not wearing dress jeans (even if I believe there is such a thing).  I’m dressing up jeans with a nice top and jacket.   ;)

Jay is now my hero.  Thank you.   :D

Panni I’m just taking comfortable black flats. I will be doing too much walking for anything else. Thanks for reminding me not to leave the hotel with sneakers on Wed. afternoon.

Stuart, Keith has dressed jeans up with a tie and blazer but that day it was a nice suit he wore.

Bryan called and I didn’t finish packing. I think I should eat first.  I'm hungry.

Danise I'm not checking my luggage with only a 45 minute layover in Phoenix, plus I have to take it on the metro and then the train.

Need to say this ASAP--my cable modem died there for a moment and it still won't send e-mails.  I may wink out and not be able to come back.

Dad-gum it.  It keeps going off and on--I don't know why.  It's a calm night.  I guess even if you e-mail me now Jane, I won't get it.  That out box e-mail is also still sitting there.

In case I go off line again and can't get back on, I just wanted to say--shouldn't you be resting or packing?   ;D  Be safe, have a GREAT trip and I will call you when I said in the e-mail.

I'm packing but I haven't put all my clothes back into our closet since we got our new carpeting, so I'm between two ends of the house in order to pack.  The laptop is in the middle of the house on the kitchen counter.  I'm condensing now so everything will fit into my two carry ons-that includes my big purse.

Forgot to mention the great Dave Thomas of SCTV fame was at the show - I was surprised to see him there.  No show, at least while I was there, Theodore Bikel.

My little roll on bag is only 20 inches long, maybe 14 inches high, including the smaller compartment on top.  When I pack “light” I usually take that along with a very full toiletry bag that sits on top.  I just, with Keith’s assistance, packed one week worth of stuff into the one carryon bag.  I sure hope I can pick it up without hurting my back.  Everything else will be crammed into a large purse.  I hope I don’t find much to buy in NY.  There are lots of cute shops in Bethesda too.
