Good morning, all! I am in an emotional and financial slump at the moment The emotional problems need to work themselves out, and I hope it's soon. I'm tired of being idle, and even projects I'm working on for myself aren't helping much. I'm feeling antiquated, unnecessary, valueless, and a bit paranoid at the moment, all of which that make it hard to get out of bed or to keep going. I want to work. I never wanted to retire, and perhaps the past 14 yeas of being paid to do what I like have spoiled me.

Financially, I'm in a terrible place and will remain so until next Wednesday when my Social Security clicks in for the month. Things will be better fiscally when the IRS return lands but that could be another 2-3weeks away. I do hope not.

My Medicare payment, which was due on March 7, was posted on March 3. It has not yet arrived. I cannot send another check before Monday because I only have enough funds in my account to cover the original check. There have been days when the check clears in two days, since it goes to the GPO, but I've had at least one occasion where a lost check was replaced, the original canceled at the bank for a $25 fee, and then it arrived at my HMO. I guess there are advantages to electronic payment.

I don't know from House of Cards since I don't have FlexNit.....but I have to say that I HATE television shows that trivialize our government offices and pretend to show us how everything works....since they mostly are vehicles for political claptrap from one-sided writers and producers - like The West Wing.

And of course we have Madam Secretary, etc. I think it does the process a disservice and feeds into the political schism that is dividing our country.

There are people who will unfriend you on Facebook or punch you in the face if you have the nerve to have a politically different stand than they do.....

And of course as amusing as the news shows on Comedy Central are, they have lessened the impact of REAL news and made everything a punch line or fodder for comedy.....

Which means, I guess, that I wouldn't watch House of Cards even if I had FlexNit.

Cue the series of posts that tell me how wrong I am, and that I just don't understand or have a sense of humor.

Friday morning greetings! Day 2 of the AAUW book sale is underway. Richard and I were there for the first 2 hours of last night's $5 pre-sale, for which we charge admission to people who want the best selection. There are still a lot of great books left and I'm looking forward to selling some this evening.
