THE UNDERSTUDIES

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were understudies, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - their understudies are on today.

Today, I have no plans to go anywhere except to visit my sister for a little while.  Otherwise, I will stay home and learn my lines!  We have to be off-book by tomorrow!  I'm not quite there yet, but I'm getting there...slowly but Shirley. ;)

I have just time to savor one cup and then I must be off to the playhouse to bring everything home.

Not really looking forward to the schlepping (it's time for that familiar refrain, "why oh why oh why oh, didn't I take up the piccolo in Ohio?"), but I look forward to having everything back home and set up.

I'll treat myself to some doughnuts or something nice on the way back.  Yeah, that's the ticket.

With all the talk of pie yesterday I thought of Don McLean's Bye Bye American Pie.

Here is the poster from the show that never was. Five days after the music died.

Good morning, all!

It's another overcast and gloomy day in Manhattan.  I have no plans to go anywhere, so I will do some tidying, maybe write a few notes, and perhaps catch up on some DVDs.

Last night, my wife and I watched THE WIZ.

I'd seen it on the stage and, also the movie when it was first released, but she'd seen neither.

I gotta tell you:

Although I like many of the original songs from the show, THE WIZ has got to be one of the most ill-conceived movies I've ever seen.

I love almost all of Sidney Lumet's films, but God did not mean for him to direct a musical.  He had absolutely no idea where to place his camera.

And, Diana Ross as Dorothy....

I could go on, but I won't.

Sunday morning greetings!  Fr. Richard excused me from Lima because he thought I needed to be here for the last day of the book sale.  From noon to 5pm, you can buy a brown paper grocery bag (donated by Marsh Supermarkets) for $6 and fill it with books.  We hope to get rid of A LOT today.

No groaning, perhaps. But what about Matt Groening, creator of the Simpsons?

And I have a poster up in my work room from "Nowhere to Go But Up," a stage flopsical from James Lipton that Mr. Lumet is billed as the director of. He didn't learn from that.

Paella Challenge today. Must be off in a few to go watch people cook food I shouldn't be eating. But probably will anyway. All that rice.
