Although I did not win for best decorated booth or a prize for my chili; it appears that it was only the judges who were unimpressed -
Many people (including the person who won best booth) said they thought mine was better - and I was the first one to run out of chili because of the number of people who came back for seconds (and thirds) and the number who came over and said they were told they had to try mine because it was so good.
DR Vixmom I am shocked you did not win for best booth, it really was great. It is ok for you to say you expected to win. What about the chili? Last we left you, you weren't too sure. After tasting the others did you like yours the best?
Never mind, I see you would have awarded someone else for the chili prize. I'm still curious how you felt about yours in the end.
I like mine very much actually - I left it simmering for 24 hours in the slow cooker and by the end although it was sweet it was not overwhelmingly so , just a slight sweet foretaste, a hint of the brown sugar and then the chili peppers kicked in for slow heat but not so tremendously so that you were left with tears in your eyes like some of the chili recipes last night. I would make this again.
But the brisket based one had a deep, rich. beefy flavor it was also a medium chili, a nice bit of heat towards the end but not a burning hot. I think I might try this sometime, just for us.
