I've been listening to this new recording of Victor Herbert's 1922 musical comedy ORANGE BLOSSOMS. I have friends involved so I'm treading cautiously, but I cannot say I like it much: tubby, ultra-high echo sound, which makes it appear to be an intimate comedy set in a large cathedral, or sewer, and a lot of noisy piano filligree that I am pretty certain Victor Herbert never even imagined, much less put on paper!
The fact that the info on the restoration is non-existant always bothers me, same with the Ohio Light Opera recordings, which play fast and loose with orchestrations and textual edition and passes it off as authentic
