It's one of the (if not the) final lines from the book of Goldman and Sondheim's Follies. In the original version, which is never done anymore.

What I forgot to mention earlier with regard to Elmore's story is that a few years after meeting him, I became friends with the Patricia that he wrote about. I met her through my friend Carol, though I don't think that I knew until more recently that they knew each other.

Back from A Chorus Line - I'll ruminate in the notes - it was pretty bad, but it shouldn't have been - the kids gave it their all, but were let down by everyone from the choreographer to the director.  It is their responsibility to make these things a life-altering experience, to TEACH - if you can't give as much as your students do, you shouldn't be doing the show nor should you be in the position you're in.
