From DR Ben:
That wasn't what I meant by my comment. I know that Overdrive works with Kindle. I'm saying that Overdrive lets you return e-pub ebook files which are different from Kindle book files. You cannot return a Kindle ebook once it's checked out but you can return an e-pub book when you've finished it. It's why I will not take a Kindle ebook if I have a choice between Kindle and e-pub.
Got it. Yes, another reason I do not like using the Kindle app. I read a popular book in several days and then it sat there for the full 21 days. I felt very bad about this.
Well, I am a total goon! I guess I never looked into this, but I THOUGHT that Kindle e-books couldn't be returned (unless there was a change in policy at some point that I never heard about). Because of all this conversation here on HHW, I decided to speak with our library's e-book guru Liz, and she said that ALL formats can be checked in early! Although,
how they're checked in is different for the different formats or the different reading devices. So, I CAN check out a library e-book for 7 days and download it through a USB cable (like I've been doing), and then
instantly return it so that the title is instantly available for the next patron! And because I don't sync up my device to my account through Wi-Fi, it can stay on my device indefinitely. That's called workin' the system.
