I am posting  now as I am wide awake.

I came to comment on the email I received from my brother whom, I correctly guessed, watched Jeopardy.  He said he had been rooting for the winner :)

Last night, it snowed here quite a lot. But this morning, most traces of it on the ground are gone. Weird.

I asked folks that have lived here a long time when the latest snow was that they can remember. Definitely in May.       :P

A local group here is doing an 80th birthday tribute concert to Peter Schickele (aka P.D.Q. Bach). The first half of the program was devoted to his "serious" music, and the second half to comedy. There was a choir, a wind ensemble, and Mr Schickele himself narrating the entire thing. It was quite funny and a great evening.

Tonight, I have a dress rehearsal for a concert that I am performing in tomorrow, part of the "Great Northern Voices" choral festival.

Yep, I can remember those mid to late May snows. You go to bed one night after a beautiful day and wake up in the morning with snow on the ground. You want to jump out a window on those days! And this from someone who likes the snow.

Good morning all!

I got around 10 hours of sleep last night, and I'm feeling pretty good today.  I will head down to City Center and check on Joshie.  Tonight, I'm having dinner with Rob Berman and Bruce Pomahac, and that's pretty much my day.

I love Peter Schickele! He is such a wonderful man.  In the 1990s, when he was still doing his PDQ Bach concerts at Carnegie Hall after Christmas, I saw several of them as one of his guests. His "Oedipus Tex" is one of my favorite PDQ Bach works.  A couple of years ago, he sent me a CD of his never-released-on-CD Vanguard recording of his songs for "The Knight of the Burning Pestle," and his orchestrations for Joan Baez' "Noël" album and Buffy Sainte-Marie are fantastic.

Also, his ridiculous comic opera "The Abduction of Figaro" should be performed regularly.

It's raining in Austin.  Indeed, it's supposed to keep raining through the weekend and into the first part of the week.

I thought it was funny; had some LOL moments.

Your take?

DR BEN - that's great.  I was also hoping that Chris would win.  The passive aggressive champ that had been on for SIX days kept winning because her challengers would make huge bets on Double Jeopardy and Final Jeopardy questions and lose.  She never really won because of her own skills.

Chris made a couple of BIG Double Jeopardy wagers that paid off.....and he knew the Final Jeopardy answer as well....she was called some kind of "guardian ad litem" not an actual one.....volunteer or something.....she looked like just the kind of person who would stick her nose into other people's business....so glad she's GONE!

I won't get to watch tonight because of rehearsal.....so please post how Chris does.  I hope he is on for a few days at least.

I will post tonight about how he does. I think this may be the end though (or he might go on Monday) because even though you can't speak about a show until it's aired someone here at the office mentioned the Tournament of Champions and he said he would not be eligible (you don't get invited back just because you won 1 game), then he caught himself and said he couldn't talk any more about tonight's show. We spent about 45 minutes diseccting the show with him. It's a great way to spend a Friday morning

It's raining off and on here, but the rain, when it comes, is heavy.

I, too, love Schickele's music, with the exception of his "O! Calcutta!" score.

He was one of the first celebrities I ever interviewed, and I remember him being as funny as his work, but also serious about the musical integrity of it.

That's what was always so amazing about his stuff -- how good the music, and the performances themselves, were.
