We are back from Richard's uneventful doctor's appointment, a nice brunch at Cracker Barrel, and a little grocery shopping. First thing we did when we got home was close the windows and turn on the AC, because it's so-o-o-o-o humid.

I too have turned on the AC, and I finally was able to put the laundry into the washers 25 minutes ago. A rather eccentric fifth floor neighbor had them tied up all morning.

On my way out this morning, I posted a note by the mailboxes that I was abandoning a 4-drawer filing cabinet soon, should anyone want it, and i've had an offer from another peculiar fifth floor neighbor to take it.

My daughter loved Sesame Street and knew all its songs. For me, that's where the show excelled - original songs that were not only kid-friendly, but well-written and friendly to adults and didn't really pander. I credit a lot of that to Joe Raposo, who was a terrific songwriter.

TOD - Our son Rob was a SESAME STREET kid. In fact, he "graduated" from pre-school the day Jim Henson died. One of our favorite characters was The Count. On THE MUPPET SHOW, I always liked the Swedish Chef.

My first LP was the first Sesame Street album, which I have a copy here (not my old copy unfortunately).

For many years, the ABC 4:30 Movie theme was thought to have been written by Joe Raposo, but that may not be the case. For those who may not remember, it was a nifty short animation with dramatic music, appropriate for the telecasting of a former blockbuster or great B-movie, or on weekends (with a variant of the animation), cheesy horror classics:

Muppet Show performance of Piero Umiliani's "Mahna-Mahna". One of Jim Henson's favorite pieces, which may have been first performed on The Ed Sullivan Show, as The Muppets were semi-regulars. Ironically, the song is from "Sweden Heaven and Hell" which is a 1960s pseudo-documentary about sexual freedoms in Sweden, so it's just a disguise for a nudie-cutie flick for 42nd St. theaters.
