Thursday evening greetings!

Trouble connecting today. Anyone else having that problem?

Yes, that's why I'm not here until almost 9pm!

Echoing DR Jeanne, I had a dental appointment today...

You see, over Memorial Day weekend I became convinced that there might be a problem with my last molar on the upper left.  My 6-month check-up is scheduled for June 16, but that's the day before I leave for 2 weeks in California and I didn't want to wait in case something like a crown was needed.  So, I called at 9am on May 26, explained the situation, and was told today (June 4) was the soonest they could see me.

Sure enough, the tooth and the old filling in it are both cracked and he wants to put a crown on it.  Suddenly, it's a big, hairy scheduling problem because I want the work completed before I leave on vacation.  I stood my ground and pointed out that if I hadn't had to wait a week and a half for today's appointment there wouldn't be such a tight time frame.  I have an appointment first thing Monday morning...

DR Dan M, I enjoyed your early theatrical story. I do feel you should explore some creative pursuits. Full-time or part-time. I think it would enrich your life.

Of course, posting on HHW is a creative pursuit.  :)

Even more so when your posts post.

Amen.

Good evening. I have been out of town for a while.

John G., I know Ginger.

Waaaay back, many many years ago, when we fostered cats and kittens, we ran out of names for them. So pretty much everyone we knew got a cat/kitten named after him/her. A feral white and black kitten came in for me to tame, and he was named Joshie. Said kitten growled at everyone at adoptions because he wanted to come home to me. So he came home and has been a happy lap cat ever since.

So Joshie is named after Ginger, whom I met in some theater forum somewhere on the innerwebs when he was a still a teen, I believe.  My son worked for an airline at the time, so for the price of a motel room, I was able to fly out to see him perform in his community theater. He is very talented.

He's playing Franknfurter. Should be fun.

Well, it is kind of late here on the right coast, and I should be calling it a night.

"It is a night."

There.  See?  I did it.

It is late and I am tired, but I wanted to post this before I forget it.

DR Dan M, do you know about Ira Progoff and his Intensive Journal process? I think it would interest you. He died some years ago, but others carry on his work. If you have the opportunity to attend one of the Intensive Journal workshops, do so. (They're often on university campuses.)  If not, then the book, At A Journal Workshop will suffice. It's a way to get in touch with your creative side, and is especially good for writers, I think.

We really lucked out with our realtor though she is not the first one to take me on fun excursions after we moved in.  Her husband, our contractor, is equally great.

Your realtor and her husband have a very convenient and complementary arrangement. Does she specialize in homes that need considerable work?

No, and some people might not have felt this needed work.  I think they agreed with us about the changes we wanted to make.  It was livable as it was but it was best to do things that would soon need doing before we moved in.

It was actually the 2nd notice.  The first one was just a few weeks after my cat died.  I set it aside (the notice) and forgot about it.  I just e-mailed them, saying that I wasn't going to renew.

I hope that that's good enough.  I don't think I need to waste a stamp for that bit of information.  We'll see if they respond.

And on a happier note...one of my DVD burners crapped out on me at the end of April (this isn't the happier note part) and I eventually took it to a local repair shop.  I knew that this shop was more expensive than other places, but I really didn't know of any other local shops and I wanted to get it fixed...my TV was still working at this point.  Anyway, I took it in on May 6 (I still had the paperwork) and I've been waiting all this time to hear from them.  I finally called them today and the guy said, "Yeah, we've got it right here.  It'll be $122.40."

:o $122.40??  I didn't think it would cost that much!  I think my surprise came across in my voice when I said "Thanks" and that I'd come pick it up in a bit.  I went at my lunch time to pick it up and when they brought it out, I said that I never got a call or anything from them saying how much it would cost before they did the actual work, and that I don't think I would've had it done if I had known that it would've cost that much (they really didn't call and I really don't think that I would've have had it done for that much).

The guy was VERY apologetic and said that that wasn't the way that they do business.  They always call people and he would make it right.  He typed a bit on his computer and then looked at me and said, "$32.64."

Again, I was shocked...but in a good way!  "Really?" I asked.  He said that that was the minimum that they would charge (with tax) if they inspected a device and let a person know how much the work would cost, but the person said no.  I said a big, genuine, "Thanks!" and paid right then.  He was very nice and I think he knew how grateful that I was for that.  He even carried the DVD burner to my car.

Now THAT'S customer service! :D
