The neighbor who lives beneath them has been here for almost fifty years and says they're the noisiest tenants who've occupied that apartment.

I fully expect them to blame me for this. We've ALL complained about their noise. But I know they blame me.

DR Jeanne, I forgot to update my neighbor situation. Last weekend, the guy upstairs had a bunch of his (and or her) friends over. They always get rowdy. Certainly not a cocktail hour crowd. You may recall that I contemplated calling the sheriff, but cooled my heels and instead wrote (yet another) email letter to the apartment manager. That seems to have been more effective. One of the front office women who is on my side told me that she had a thorough conversation with NN who claimed that the body slams/collapses I heard (on my ceiling) were not drunks falling over but a "vigorous" video game session. Perhaps, but he's been put on notice and she told me that he was "concerned". I will reserve verdict until and if there's a next time. He and his GF like to drink, and some of the familiar faces that gather there with them look not like a cocktail crowd but a typical college let's-get-F'd Up-crowd. The ones who look a bit more mature (in action, not age) always leave early before things do go out of control. If only the NN had that kind of sense.

After a long talk with a very good friend, she advised me to look at this as a signal from the universe/higher powers that I should get on with my surgery, get well, and then look for greener pastures to make a new home, as in a way I will be starting a new phase. Thinking this way has been helpful to me.

Just learned that today is also Basil Rathbone's birthday. My favorite Sherlock Holmes was born 123 years ago in South Africa and died in 1967 in NYC, believe it or not.

It's been out for a month now. There are no BK chapters - one tiny mention in one chapter - it's that kind of book. This is the problem with co-written memoirs - Cindy's not writing at all - she's dictating, and therefore the book is bereft of details, jumps from one thing to the next, and is very shallow, IMO, and really without point, as most of these are. I really feel the best memoirs are not co-written at all and have a point and story to tell. For example, mine own - I would never have written them had I not had a point and a story to tell, with a beginning, middle and end.

As you all know, I don't have much need or call for Facebook, outside of promotion and the occasional post. I dread going there because every time I do my newsfeed is filled with utter crap from "friends" I don't know, most of whom spend their entire lives posting Facebook memes, phony "news" stories they post as real, links to click bait sites with headlines designed to anger and outrage so you'll click right through - I have systematically begun to unfriend every one of these idiots. I don't warn, I just do it. The humorous part is that almost all of them are older people, in their 70s, who have nothing better to do than be on Facebook trawling for things like that to share. It's pathetic and I'm not having any more of it.

As you know, Cindy plays a prominent role in my book. I'm reduced to one line in hers. I'd say one of us is a real writer and knows storytelling, and one doesn't. I don't know how you reduce someone you've known for fifty years, have worked with repeatedly, had romance with, and been through a lot with, the guy you always turned to when the TV show was bugging you, and reduce that person to one single line in a book about your life. I'm not the only one, however.

I think your NNs should meet my NNs. Out in the desert somewhere, where the only people they'll disturb are the coyotes.

Mine do the falling-down-drunk noises, too.

I'm pleased that you have someone on your side on the management team. You know, when it gets rowdy there's always a good chance there'll be breakage of some sort. I think this is a useful--and underused--approach. Ie, you're not just complaining, you're alerting them to a possible "situation."

And I concur with your friend 100%--you WILL be in a new chapter of your life, with lots of new opportunities and possibilities.

About a week ago some neighbors in the next building were having a very loud party. I figured it wouldn't be long before someone called the police. But I wasn't going to! Guess who is right next to all that noise? These party-goers actually shut things down at 11 pm, completely on their own!

We went to a fun place to eat over the bridge into Portland, Island Café. It is on a dock on the river. It was fun to watch all the boaters and kayaks go buy. A few boats tied up to the dock and stopped to eat.
