Well, you've read the notes, the notes had artificial intelligence, and now it is time for you to post until the artificially intelligent cows come home.

Good morning, all.

A little too early for my refined tastes.  But hey.

Liked the notes about the John Williams and the 99-seat meeting.  I'd be interested in hearing more about that issue whenever appropriate.

Good morning, all!  I left Birdland last night around 8:45 in a really bad mood: I was looking forward to seeing this concerts by my friends Stephen Cole and David Evans, and I was happy the place was packed.  I got there around 6:45 and the place was a;lready packed.  I was given a table at the very back of the room to the left of the band; it was so far back that I was looking at the backs of the actors and I heard maybe 50% if the lyrics because the band - which looked like 3 reeds, 3-4 brass, piano, bass and drums - covered it all.  Those in the audience in front of the speakers and actors had a great time and there was much laughter. I was quite frustrated.

I would never recommend Birdland as a venue.

John  Williams used to be my publicity client.

I handled his Oscar campaigns for both THE RIEVERS and FIDDLER ON A ROOF.

I saw Steve Cole briefly, and told him that I loved what I heard, and I beat it out of there,  The place was packed and I was stumbling about on a cane.  So, I got into a taxi, came home, watched MAJOR CRIMES, and by then I wasn't angry, just very depressed.  I'm still down, and I slept late. I'm sure part of the depression is the general inertia of my life while I wait on decisions at the moment, but I'm ready to go back to bed.

DR KEVIN H - I doubt that Mrs. Brolin has seen THE CAR.....

And they cut out the preview line that sent the audience over the edge....the girl on the telephone had another few seconds of another scene in the preview where she said:

"The Car! The Car! It's in the garage!"

Yesterday's TOD:
"Child Bride of Short Creek", which is also a movie about Fundamentalist Mormons. It has a very young Helen Hunt in it, from when no one knew who she was, but she wasn't the star of the film.

I absolutely despise A.I.  Another of Spielberg's soppy, sentimentally overwrought, almost homoerotic paeans to childhood like HOOK and easily his worst film since HOOK.  That this film had its origins with Kubrick doesn't help it...a cold, distancing filmmaker to me.  Pretty much everything of his from 2001 on (another film I can't stand) has bored me silly.  Give me Kubrick when he was working with Kirk Douglas -- PATHS OF GLORY or SPARTACUS.  I found A.I to be a tedious, somnambulistic mess and you'd have to threaten to stick forks in my eyes before I'd watch it again.

TOD:  I've never been much of a fan of Williams' scores.  Compared to the subtleties and style of people like Rozsa, Herrmann, Korngold, North, Goldsmith, Barry, etc...He's always just a little too obvious and on the nose for me...sort of like Spielberg, usually entertaining enough but not great.  I think the only scores I have of his are STAR WARS & RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK and , in retrospect, I don't find them that enchanting and probably haven't played either in over twenty years.

I don't know what is currently going on with the 99-seat plan in LA, but I came down decidedly in favour of Equity about it earlier.  I firmly believe in paying the artist and the Equity plan as it stood was stale, ripe for abuse against the artist, and long in need of an overhaul.  I don't know if Equity's solution was the best solution there could have been , but it was a step in a much needed direction.
