Everyone gets colds in the summer, and then they complain that they have a "summer cold". I grew up hearing that a "summer cold" was always especially miserable. Which is silly, because what cold isn't?

And much of the time, it IS allergies. Several years ago I had one so bad that I went to the doctor, who told me it was allergies. I was amazed. I am still amazed.

Back when I was a kid, we had a summer home in Soap Lake, WA, and we played croquet on our front lawn regularly. Actually, I was quite good at it.

My doctor informed me yesterday that I'm going to need surgery in a couple of weeks.

I have a tear in the Achilles tendon of my left foot and it needs to be repaired or it could rupture. Post-surgery, I'm told that I will be hobbling around for the better part of a year.

Bummer!

Our family played croquet in the summer for years, in Columbus, and probably some in Florida after that, though I mostly remember it in my grandparents' sizable yard up north. To the best of my knowledge, croquet was just about the only outdoors game activity any of us really took part in.

For extra credit: I've never had a Lime Rickey, but I had many a Cherry Lime Rickey at the wonderful Delores (I never remember which way it was spelled) Restaurant in L.A. I've only come across one or two places in recent years that have them on the menu, but they do turn up now and then. Of course they're never as good as those, but it is a very sweet/tart refreshing beverage.

My eyes aren't itchy at all. But it seems like i am going thru cold stages. If i bend my runny nose just drips right out. And i had a bit of a cough. I can't imagine any of these things could be allergies, but who knows.

I did take an advil cold and sinus and am starting to feel better, so that is good.

I hate croquet.

I think it is because the few times I was forced to play, no one ever explained the rules to me....the game seemed very arbitrary to me....so I have never attempted to play it again.

I enjoy playing tennis and handball (though not so much in the last few years)....

Tuesday i had a tickle in my throat. Yesterday my nose was running a bit. Today i have a bit of a cough and my nose is running like crazy. please go away!

Btw, I am pretty sure it is a cold, but my sister was wondering if it could be allergies. I really don't think so (i would think more itchy eyes). But how do you know for sure if you have a cold and not allergies?

The only good things about summer colds are the good weather and watermelon. Eat lots of watermelon and drink the juice. It really helps.
