I wish DRs TCB and George would send a few of those degrees our way. It's going to be in the 80s this week, which is nice, but it seems like we have to earn each one of these warm spells by suffering a fallback. The last few summers in this part of the northeast have been just Too Darn Cool.

I don't think it's hit 100 here yet. We've had a nice, breezy summer.

Sure, it gets up to 95 or so, but then it stops and regains its sense.

DR GEORGE I have one of those portable air conditioners because my room was built on after the original house, and the ducts for the heating/air conditioning do not run out here.

I think DR TCB has one, too.

It is a bit annoying to have to run a dryer vent hose like thing out a screen, but it cools my entire room.... I use an empty water bottle to empty the water each morning.....

All in all....it makes it more comfortable than just a fan. This is the third year for this one, and I have had no problems.

Good morning, all! Last night, I finished up the 2009 BBC version of Jane Austen's EMMA with Jonny Lee Miller (very good!) and Romola Garai (a little too modern), and then I spent far too long reading a too-precious book about social etiquette and dancing in Regency England. So, I slept until 9, and now I'm ready for my second cuppa coffee.

I need a market trip as well.

I plan to putter about the apartment, tidy up a bit, maybe vacuum, and copy orchestra parts today. Tomorrow, I head back up to Columbia.

I need something really good to happen. My financial life and career need a good kick: that Ohio property isn't moving, the Moross work is wonderful but sporadic, my orchestrating/arranging career is on the downside with few offers and there are lots of young, more-eager-than-I and often less-talented-than-I folk grabbing and competing for the work in Manhattan.

I need that job I said yes to several months ago to get moving or a foundation/recording company to want to employ me. I need something good to happen to drag me out of this funk.

Yesterday I went to see The Producers in Olney, Md. with my friends. I had seen it several times before but it's been quite a while. It was a very good production and of course, Jason Graae was a standout. He was his usual hilarious self. There was a "talk-back" after the show, but we couldn't stay since my friends had other guests coming for dinner

I found that a very pleasant version of "Emma." I like Romola, who sounds like she belongs in a George Eliot dramatization. That may be why I liked her much better as Gwendolen Harleth in "Daniel Deronda."
