You are doing very well without me.

Yeah, I am doing great as long as you are not concerned with quality or clarity

There is one on the road to Seven Springs. It is a long ways away from me, though.

I am fortunate that I never had to worry about that with my mother.  But I wouldn't recommend having a parent be killed as an alternative.

Oh tommy I didn't mean to open that wound

My mother flat out refused to ever go to an assisted living place. My mother-in-law couldn't wait to get to hers.  I hope your parents will be reasonable.

I am finding it very hard to type, seeing that Joshie is laying across my hands on the keyboard. I guess he missed me today.

It's nice to be loved .....sometimes

Dad has dementia which has gotten very much worse in the past few months.  Mom is still pretty much ok but caring for dad is really too much for her

T.O.D.

When I was five or six, my Aunt Ruth (my mom's sister) and the lady who lived in the apartment next door, decided to buy a house together.  There was talk at the time that single women couldn't get funding for buying a house, and also that there was security in not living on their own.

However, as the year went on and they vacationed together every year, they went out to dinner and drinks together, and invited other female friends down for elaborate parties.  They even had a big 25th anniversary party to "celebrate buying their house."   I remember when I went to see the film THE KILLING OF SISTER GEORGE.  The next day at breakfast my mom asked how I liked the movie.  I said it was kind of like watching Ruth and Dorothy together.  My sister chocked on her toast and my mom got up and started rinsing the dishes.

No, it is okay.  I have often wondered which is harder.  Losing a parent in an instant, or watching them wither and die slowly over a period of years.

I'm sorry, that didn't come out sounding the way I meant it.

I know what you mean and I understand. I think it would havebenneasier if mt dad was physically ill. This loss of his ability to communicate, or care  for himself.. It's like having a 5'9" 160 lb 2 year old

Vixmom, there is a company that has been advertising lately (Kindred maybe?) that helps with families try to deal with those types of choices.  I only paid attention to the commercials, because I was thinking about help for me.

I can't count on my sister being around to make decisions about me, and if I put Larry in charge, he will have me committed tomorrow.

I've had both happen, TCB. My dad died in an instant; my mother went downhill over many years. They were both hard. Dad was a shock -- he was not even 60 yet. Mom was 84, so it was not unexpected.

I go have to say if I had the choice between dying with all my faculties of a disease like cancer   Or having dementia at this moment I would absolutely choose the first

Well, TCB, it's just the way that life is. I can't imagine losing a child. Parents you expect to lose.

Young Wae-Ling found a couple extra good things on our hike today. She found a garter snake in the water, fungus beetles and their larvae, and best of all, several endangered tiger salamander larvae in a pond.

I know.  And you are correct.  But expecting to lose a parent, and actually losing them are two different things.
