Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of schedules and madness, and now it is time for you to post until the mad cows come home.

Apparently a "definitive" biography of Rodgers and Hammerstein is due in 2018:

I heard Shirley Jones being interviewed on some National Public Radio show as I was driving around doing errands yesterday. She was telling about how she got her big break in "the business." It was quite a story.

Good morning, all.

Early to bed, early to rise.

Well, that's sort of what happened this time.  Along with a weird dream at the end.

Coffee!

I agree that the idea of live-in help as opposed to assisted living facility can be a strong consideration if it's economically feasible.  It's turned out to be an excellent solution for several friends and relatives (even clients I've worked with), especially if it's the family that's being asked to help out.

(especially if the help is in 8-hour or 12-hour shifts, as opposed to relying on one round-the-clock person who frankly might just one day pick up and find another job and leave them in the lurch)

Thunderstorms woke me up this morning.

I really hope that the weather stays clear until 11am as my niece has a swimming lesson at 10am.  There are supposed to be more thundershowers all day. :(

Fascinating and (to my mind) unexpected observation about the mega-hit HAMILTON from someone from Canada in a post on ATChat:  that their enjoyment of the show was hampered by his or her not knowing American history or historical figures that well.  The very first even remotely negative comment I've heard about the show.

Planning to see HAMILTON in September, when there's a bit more availability during the highest Jewish holiday period - I'd like to wait until after i hear the eventual cast album to see it, which i tend to prefer when it's likely I'll only get to see a super-hot show once -

but when you look at the seating chart, such a major percentage of the house is sectioned off as $327 premium seats, and anything under $200 - still a high price - is far away or specifically identified as partial view.

Last night i watched the BBC telecast of Rodney Ackland's play Absolute Hell, which I found amazing for its boldness both as a play produced in 1950 and as a telecast.  The cable stations wouldn't balk at it, but NBC, CBS, and ABC would have heebie jeebies at the frank discussions about sex in all shapes and sizes in a 1945 Lonson "club-gay bar."  It was great fun seeing a lot of BBC actors like Francesca Annis letting go of her corsets and playing a woman on the fringe of British films kept by one man and carrying on an affair with a soldier, Charles Grey as a British film producer using his power to pick up young men, or a young Bill Nighy, whom I first saw as the father in I Capture the Castle playing a young gay novelist picking up soldiers and throwing rocks at (usual) comedienne Betty Marsden's bull dyke book critic.

My beloved Judi Dench played Christine, the horny and blowsy owner of the club, and she was quite wonderful.  So, I had several dreams in which Miss Dench appeared last night.

Our mutual friend Peter is working on a musical version of I CAPTURE THE CASTLE, which is just remarkable writing by him and his collaborators, and was done at Pace not too long ago.
