I'm watching last night's episode of "Falling Skies."  I knew that this was going to be the last season but I didn't realize that next week will be the series finale.

This is one of those shows that, to me, did not start out well.  I watched it, but didn't like it at first.  But, it was given a chance to find its way and I think it became a good show.

I don't know why I kept watching, but I did...then eventually, I started to like it.

It was very much like "Fringe" in that way.  The first couple of seasons of that show were not very good, but it also ended really well.

Good morning, all!  I awoke around 6:00, could not get back to sleep, and decided at 5:54 or so to get out of bed.

I blame the codeine in the Tylenol for the fact that I had last night lots of bizarre dreams.  I kept waking and thinking, WTF? Where did that come from?  I also blame the codeine for the fact that I now remember none of them.

The pains in the side are receding, but they continually sneak up and make me gasp out loud. I need not only a sherpa but a nurse.

Today will be a Columbia library day.  On my way home, I shall stop at the market.  I need nectarines.

I hope to see Mr Anthony Morelli this week.  i have an LP set of the National Theatre of Great Britain production of Congreve's The Way of the World for him to convert to mp3 files.

I'm back on a Restoration comedy jag, and I have several plays I want to reread.

TOD:  Though the "sous vide" approach scared me at first in principle, I've really come to like the food that results from that process.

I rejected the low-fat fad when I gained weight from it, but other than that, I generally embrace food that I enjoy (with the exception of sweets, which I have to keep in check) and don't think that's a fad.

Good morning, all.

Nothing much to report in the dreams department except for an annoying music-oriented situation that kept repeating itself.

Coffee!

I appreciate BK's report of listening to the Kenton WEST SIDE STORY album.  When I was going through some records last week my attention was drawn to that one, along with the Previn and one or two other jazz takes on it, and I nearly took them out to play them.  Now I shall simply have to.

What's the other one I have?  Oscar Peterson.  But there's still another, I think.  Or another that BK or someone mentioned here that I made a note of somewhere.  Have to find that note.

I wonder how the LP and CD might differ in sound.  I recall the LP as being a very strong, bright, in your face recording.  Well, we shall see.

The Kenton is one of those records that I remember exactly when and where I discovered it.  In the late 1980s I became interested in secondhand LPs and began exploring various record stores around LA.  This one came from a store in Santa Monica that had a good selection of shows and soundtracks and jazz, but at a price, and I picked it up when they were running a sale.  Wait, there were a couple of stores out that way.  Was it Off the Record?  I'll figure it out.

I see that actress Anna Kashfi has died.

Here is my brief Anna Kashfi story from my 2nd memoir, LIFE, LIBERTY & THE PURSUIT OF HOLLYWOOD.

One afternoon in the late 1960s, the owner of an upscale coffee shop in Brentwood asked me to come by and talk to him about my possibly publicizing his restaurant. When I got there, he was busy with another matter, so he introduced me to one of his favorite customers, and she invited me to sit with her and her son until he was free.

The lady was actress Anna Kashfi, who had played prominent roles in films like THE MOUNTAIN with Spencer Tracy and BATTLE HYMN with Rock Hudson, but was certainly best known as being the first wife of Marlon Brando, and the mother of his son, Christian.

I spent perhaps fifteen or twenty minutes chatting with the pleasant
Ms. Kashfi about this and that. My impression of Christian, who appeared to be about eleven at the time, was that he was a quiet, well-mannered young man.

In 1990, this same quiet, well-mannered young man shot and killed
his half-sister’s boy friend in his father’s Los Angeles home. He pled guilty to manslaughter, and served five years in prison.

One never knows what the future holds.
