I had one very strange and frightening moment with the ghost in the apartment last night. I don't know if it were a dream or if I was nodding, but a large black shadow approached my bedside and leaned down, as if to embrace me. I woke up in a terrible fright. I haven't been creeped out like that in a long time,

Today I will be working at the Minnesota State Fair. It's opening day, and I will be one of the people working the informational booth for the state health insurance exchange. The venue I am working in is inside, but no air conditioning. Thankfully, I don't think it is supposed to get above 80. And, of course, you can get almost any kind of food there is - on a stick. So there's that.

I have a couple of George Shearing albums, but I'm afraid I've never gotten to know his music! I'll see what those are. That CD with the bonus tracks sounds perfect.

Well, my personnel skills continue and I've just lost a very good friend of more than 25 years. What began last month as an inquiry into a show I worked on has turned into accusations of theft and demands for instant gratification. While I understand that his job may be putting tension on him, the hostility and accusations mean that I consider this friendship no longer one.

Besides putting me into an uncomfortable situation with too many others, it has completely screwed up my morning, and I am not happy about this mess.

And, speaking of the MN State Fair, a friend and singing colleague of mine just learned that her Black Raspberry preserves just won Best in Show for all canned and preserved goods. And her "RazMulTaz" (a combination of Raspberry and Mulberry) won 3rd place in the Jelly category.

You just have to wander through the "crafts and fine arts" pavilion to think, "Gee, that's what such a severe winter hath wrought!"

TOD: I discovered the whole Big Band Era when, at a young age, I decided to share a record with my Dad to show him how cool my music was. The record was SHADRACH by Brook Benton. My dad listened to it, smiled, and said: "That's pretty good. Now I want you to listen to something." He went to an old record cabinet, pulled out a 78 record, and played it for me. It was the same song, SHADRACH, played by Larry Clinton and his orchestra...and as cool as Brook Benton's version was, Clinton's version was infinitely cooler. From that day on, I was raiding that record cabinet, discovering bands, singers, and songs from that era.

I continue to work on my lines......tonight we do the entire show....so I am hoping to be in better shape than I was.

The world's worst actress continues to hold her title with no competition in sight.
