TOD:
Back when Bette Midler had a big hit with Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, there was an Andrews Sisters resurgence and a number compilation albums of their songs were released. I was still in 8th grade, if I recall correctly, and I flipped over a recording of "In the Mood" that they did with Glenn Miller that appeared on one of the albums. That song, that sound, that style really got to me. It led me to Miller's famous instrumental version, Artie Shaw's and eventually an appreciation of big band leaders in general.
I never owned that Andrews Sisters album. It belonged to a friend of my sister's. And I've never been able to find that particular recording ever since. I finally found one version of them singing In the Mood, but it just wasn't the same. And I think Glenn Miller was the reason why. He was a horrible actor, but I still love the early stereo recordings he did for Orchestra Wives and Sun Valley Serenade, plus the way the scenes with the band were filmed.
