Well, last night, my sister's boyfriend and I went to see Randy Newman in concert at the Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery.  The show was just Randy sitting at a piano and performing songs that he had written (mostly old songs, but a few new).  It sprinkled a little bit off and on during the first set and part of the second set, but about two thirds of the way through the second set, it really started raining and didn't stop.  People started leaving, and it continued to rain, and Randy kept singing.

Eventually, he ended his show and he left.  There was no encore...I really didn't expect it.  I wondered if he just ended it because of the rain.  Then the rest of the crowd left.  We had no trouble getting to the concert from Olympia to Woodinville, but on our way back south, the rain made driving rather scary at times.  We did pass one crash that had emergency vehicles around it, and a couple of other cars on the side of I-5.  That was the worst of it all...fortunately.

Even though I wasn't specifically a Randy Newman fan, I really enjoyed the concert.  The songs were good, the singing wasn't bad...for the most part  ::) and it was just fun.  I didn't mind the rain.  My sister gave us a couple of very thin plastic ponchos and they helped.  The arms of the ponchos were too short, and they went to just below our knees, so we did get wet, but it wasn't very cold.  That really made it all not so bad.  A great time was had by most!

But you're Alive

Bruce feels groggy and weary and tragic
Punchy and bleary and fresh out of magic
But alive, but alive, but alive!
Bruce feels twitchy and bitchy and manic
Calm and collected and choking with panic
But alive, but alive, but alive!

Bruce's a thousand different people, every single one is real
Bruce has a million different feelings, OK but at least he feels!

And Bruce feels rotten, yet covered with roses
Younger than springtime and older than Moses
*But alive, but alive, but alive!

I took a couple of pictures at the beginning of the concert.  I'll post them later today.  I very quickly figured that he wasn't going to move very much, so I didn't think that I would need to take many.  And I'm glad I got that out of the way before the rains really started.  I wouldn't have been able to use my camera with all the rain at the end.

This sounds like fun. And I love Chateau Ste. Michelle's wines. Great values and flavors.

DR George - I am glad that you had fun and that getting a little wet wasn't bothersome.

I love the song referenced in today's title.

I thought DR Michael did a great job with his parody.

DR FJL used to do amazing parodies of this same number.

I am still amazed at all the selections available on the East Bay (Long Island) Diner's menu.

Have we done "But Alive" parodies here before?  This was among my parody documents:

I feel foreign, yet totally fluent
Totally present, yet errant and truant
But alive, but alive, but alive

I feel partly Guy Haines, part Guy Stroman
Half Willy Wonka and half Willy Loman
But alive, that’s the thing, but alive

I’ve got several different screen names, every single post is mine
I loved Ethel’s turn in Gypsy, but I’m also mad for Tyne

And I’ve got one foot in hell, one in himmel
Partly Bruce Willis and partly Bruce Kimmel
Sturdy as a fish
Flaky as a knish
Always here to dish
Alive

I feel Christian, but also feel Jewish
Fit as a fiddle yet sneezy and flu-ish
But alive, but alive, but alive

And I’m spontaneous yet lousy with planning
Half Channing Tatum and half Carol Channing
But alive, but alive, but alive!

Got one of my famous second winds last night and didn't get to sleep till the wee hours.  So I am kind of dragging right now.

Today I have to fertilize.  Yes, you read that correctly.  Today I have to fertilize.  I must open this humongous $45 bag of fall fertilizer, load it into the spreader, and walk it up and down all over the yard around the house and then all over the septic field.  The grass here, what's left of it, needs much love and attention.

After that, I'll stand by for a call from my best friend who lives in Santa Rosa (Sundays are often our best days to chat), and then I must needs return to Assassins.  We don't meet for two more weeks and I'm half done with the prep, but I really want to have it completely done by mid-week so I can just work on running it till it's second nature.  Our rehearsal schedule is very tight and everyone must be ready to hit the ground running.

And that's the news.

Oh.  If there's time later this afternoon I'm going to treat myself to a visit to the local music emporium, always a good thing to do, and see what they've got in the George Shearing bins.  For me, supporting a real store instead of Amazon on the occasional purchase is also a nice thing to do.
