Is the alarm in your kitchen? Now they are usually placed away from the oven, a bit outside of the kitchen.

It's not in the kitchen, but in the hall between the downstairs bedrooms not far from the entry to the kitchen. It would probably have been OK if the windows had been open, but we had to close up and start using the AC again when it began to get humid on Saturday.
