My phone rang over an hour ago. Two crazy but delightful women driving to Florida sang happy birthday to me. I believe they were heading toward the Georgia border.

In the cold light of day, a proper and VERY Happy Birthday to DR Elmore!

I thought your earlier post was this! Thank you again.

It was.  You are right, sir.  You got two (count 'em) posts for the price of one.  And you're welcome both damn times.   :D

I've just listened to the Kritzerland release of "Hangover Square."  Really good.

I haven't gotten mine, yet. Hopefully, it'll arrive this coming week.

Well, it was fun and interesting and enlightening going to a record faire for the first time in however many years.  Since my idea of prices on used vinyl are some two decades out of whack, I've had to come to terms with some sticker shock -- both at the local record emporium and at this event.

I think a lot of people's ideas of what their stuff is worth is pretty inflated, but it certainly has a lot to do with the retail prices of the new stuff being issued now.  The better collectible stuff is understandably commanding a lot more now.  I tried looking at today's offerings as through the eyes of someone just getting excited about vinyl, and quickly realized that if I were just jumping into the game, it would probably last about five minutes before I'd have to declare myself insolvent.  I'm just SO glad I got the good sh stuff back when I did...AND knew how to take care of it.

Anyway, I came home with just a few goodies, the best being a beautiful copy of KENTON - LIVE FROM THE TROPICANA.  It couldn't have been played or even handled but once or twice in its life -- and it sings, baby, it sings.  Yet another outstanding live performance from this outstanding group of musicians.  I truly don't know how Kenton did it.

Great memory of the past, Elmore. (I had the same thoughts about myself back then.)

Again, if you were an Indiegogo contributor and are getting mug and t-shirt, those are the last to be shipped - we had to get a ton of priority boxes to do those.

So, on the way back (this was in New Paltz, NY, quite the charming sort-of-new-agey college town with a couple of very nice new/secondhand book stores), I stopped in at the Barnes & Noble in Poughkeepsie just for a quick look see, and to pick my feet (when in Rome, etc....).

In their own relatively new vinyl section they were playing records (definitely a good idea) on one of those horrible plastic little record players they're selling now (definitely a terrible idea), through these horrible little tiny portable speakers (another terrible idea).  The music wanted so much to sound good, and I'm sure some of the customers browsing there would have liked really hearing said music... but on this awful little system it just sounded as unimpressive as you can make recorded music sound.  Man, if they'd set up the most minimal REAL turntable/amp/speakers from, say, the 1960s, you'd have people stopping and marveling at the sound.  That, of course, is a pipe dream.  You'd sell records, but you'd never sell another of those horrible pieces of crap, and the manufacturers of said crap would never go for that idea.  Anyhoo.....just one man's observation.

I could have had us on page 47 by now if I'd handled those last two posts correctly.

I've been watching recorded episodes of "Whose Line Is It Anyway?"  This is never not funny!

The movie that's on the channel that my DVR happened to be on is "War Games."  I don't think I've seen it since it was originally released.  I set my DVR to record it the next time it's on.
