TOD:
Mark has been on a live theater-going spree, taking me to many shows in a short period of time, mostly as a surprise. Last week we saw Alice Ripley in a tiny dinner theater club (where no dinner was served) performing a mostly-Sondheim cabaret show. Then, on Tuesday we saw Idina Menzel in "If/Then" and last night we say "Guys and Dolls". I happened to mention to Mark that with as many musicals we've seen, there are some really classic musicals we've never seen and I haven't even seen the movie versions. For instance, we've never seen "Hello Dolly" or "South Pacific" and I've never seen the movies either...shamefull, really. So, Mark sought to rectify that a bit when he saw that "Guys and Dolls" (another musical we'd never seen) was coming to Hollywood. He knows I like to be familiar with the music before I see a show, so he made me CDs of both "If/Then" and "Guys and Dolls", so I've been listening to both in my car on my way to and from work. As you can imagine, I really was already familiar with about half the songs in "Guys and Dolls". The CDs kind of spoil the surprise, but he only gives them to me two days before the show, and he's already bought the tickets, so it's not like I had any say in the matter.
