I have no desire to see STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS until it is released onto DVD.

And then, only maybe.

Nice reminiscences in the notes.  I wish I had seen Star Wars at the Chinese.  I saw it at the Plitt in Century City, and not even right away, probably a few weeks after it opened there.  I liked it okay but I was never fanatical about it.  (I appreciate it much more now than I did in those years.)  Anyhoo, I went on a weeknight and the crowds in Century City weren't crazy at all.  Actually, maybe this was later in the run.

Something I've always remembered is that Star Wars was the first, or one of the first, movies in which there was a big deal made about this newfangled "Dolby" system.  Dolby noise reduction on tape had been with us, but this was its big debut on film.  (I think...?)

Did anybody watch the season finale of THE AFFAIR last night?

I'm not going to be a spoiler, but I found the ending to be very disappointing.

With virtually all questions answered, the series should have ended last night...but it didn't.

Bad storytelling.

I'm going to a nice screening this afternoon.  The Film Society of Lincoln Center has been running a David Lynch / Jacques Rivette festival, all of which I have unfortunately had to miss due to an insane schedule this past week.  But I can get to today's showings of Mulholland Dr. and Celine and Julie Go Boating

The latter was my first Rivette, and the only film of his I'd ever seen until just recently.  A friend dragged me to it at the Nuart in the late '70s, and my memories of its magical little story and its rhythms haunted me for years.  It finally appeared on a two-tape VHS set, and later on a very nice U.K. DVD set which is still the best home video version available.  I revisited it again a few months ago and really loved it.  And as much as I love Mulholland, I'd never gone to see it at a theater, so I'm especially looking forward to basking in both of these today in lovely 35mm.

Bernie Sanders was on CBS This Morning. I wish the media would push him a bit and ignore the GOP Nazis.

Sadly, I never see movies in the theater. Mark and I seem to only be interested in seeing live shows. I'm not sure why that is, but we've always been that way.
As for television, I really enjoyed the performances of Jean Smart and Ted Danson in "Fargo". These were very different roles for both of them, especially Jean Smart, and I thought they did very well. Smart had always been such a beauty queen and for her to go out there looking so much older and wearing almost no make-up was very gutsy and I really applaud her for doing it.

I haven't seen ANY of the Star Wars prequels. I only saw the original and the two sequels. If I want to see The Force Awakens, do I need to see the prequels first?

GOP Nazis?

I thought we were supposed to avoid politics on this site.

Hello one and all.....it's Countdown To Christmas time on the Broadway Radio Show....I will be uploading an entire Xmas themed Cast Recording every day for the next 4 days.  Today we have the 1963 Broadway Cast Recording of HERE'S LOVE with music and lyrics by Meredith Willson.  It, of course, is based on the classic film "Miracle on 34th Street" and stars Janis Paige, Craig Stevens, and (as Mr. Kris Kringle) Laurence Naismith.  Enjoy!

And the McGlinn madness continues. What I do not understand is why so many peripheral persons involved keep flogging a horse that is clearly dead.

I took my three younger brothers to see STAR WARS the week it opened, probably on a Wednesday....at the Eastwood Cinema in Indy.....the only theatre with a B I G screen and Dolby Sound, etc.

The crowd was HUGE....and we didn't get seated until the scroll was running.....but I remember the image of that gigantic spaceship that just kept going and going and going.....

We loved the movie and the music.....  And I saw two of the sequels or whatever they're called before I gave up on them.....  I haven't seen one for decades....

A couple of Eastwood Theatre photos.  STAR WARS was there for over a year....the only theatre in the area that was showing it!

Santa just arrived in the form of a FedEx man. And with him arrived 10 bottles of Portuguese wine, which I won on some Book of Face contest. Some of those are real after all!

Color me besotted.

I'm up, I'm up, and shortly will be at Costco.  Three tear downs - Annette's house, the house directly to the east of me (jerks owned it and of course sold it as soon as some developer offered them a million bucks or whatever they do), and the house across the street from that one.  Soon this neighborhood will be completely ruined and those ruining it will all move as soon as their delightfully spoiled children graduate from Carpenter school.

TOD:

I liked Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard in Jurassic World.....not sure I would call them "performances" in the acting sense of the word.

I don't think I saw any other 2015 movies....yet.

Stopped for some excellent bratwurst (made on site) only to discover the place is closed on Mondays. So I'm now waiting for wings and a sub.
