Good morning, all! I slept very poorly. At 6:15 I decided Genug ist Genug and got out of bed. In about 15 minutes I will begin the laundry, then make the bed. Holy Trinity was closed yesterday afternoon so I could not go over to pray for my family and friends. I would like to accomplish that this morning.

I'll need a nap later in the day.

I cannot vacuum until after 9:00AM, so I'll open my Christmas cards and one package I have. I will call Randy and JoAnn and with them a Merry Christmas. After the laundry, I will peel potatoes and prepare a bit of Christmas dinner.

It will be a quiet day.

Yesterday I heard from one of my Dublin producers, Jonathan Ford. He and his beautiful wife Orfhlaith had their first baby on Dec. 14, my dad's birthday. That cheered me right up.

Christmas morning greetings! Quiet here, too - just the 2 of us. We'll have a nice breakfast of eggs, ham, and homemade coffee cake and open our presents from each other. We'll visit Mom on our way to Cincinnati, where there's a party at Richard's brother's house for parents of absent adult kids. Ours will be home when we get back because Rob has to go to work at midnight.

I got to Holy Trinity just before the mass began. Since I'm not Catholic, I prayed and beat it out of Dodge.

Last night I discovered that our inside building door has a jammed lock and one cannot get into the building since the key will not turn. I rang every apartment in the building until someone let me in. I phoned the super, left a message about the problem and stuck a wad of paper in the lock so no one would be stuck outside. Someone's removed the paper and I was locked out this morning. I don't know how many neighbors I woke, but I rang every apartment bell to be let in.

The place is vacuumed, the rugs are in the dryers, the clothes are waiting on the dryers, and I've been to church to pray. I guess it's timer to open my Christmas cards and package. I got a check, two gift certificates for Amazon.com and one for Barnes & Noble, so I did pretty well. Sadly, one card informed me that a mutual friend of the sender and mine lost his wife after a long battle with cancer.

I'm bummed that I am giving no gifts at the moment, but there will be rainchecks, hopefully.

I went to my annual holiday hooch exchange after church last night. The menu was all French and extensive and wonderful.

I ate my fill, drank a little and was surprised this morning that my blood sugar was not through the roof.

It's a Cy Coleman Christmas song, "He's Stuck in the Chimney Again." Really fun. The lyrics are a little Seuss, a little Johnny Marks.

I guess I should have gone shopping or something. I didn't buy anyone any presents this year.

Well, I took my daughter to Disneyland in November when we were in the LA area for my final conference. And I am buying a water heater for my son and DIL. So I spent lots of money. Just nothing wrapped.

I guess the answer to "Cold enough for ya?" this year is "No." Lots of folks complaining about the warmth, which I don't get. You all are having the kind of Christmas we Arizonans taunt the rest of the country with with our photos of Christmas dinner by the pool.

Could the weather be any crazier? Yesterday it was 60Fs and so windy it was unbelievable. On Tuesday it is supposed to be -11C(not sure what that is in F but it is freezing cold) and 15-25cm of snow. What the heck?!?!? I am not happy about that. We have had no snow. And now Sunday night is supposed to be 5-10cm and Tuesday could be ridiculous. Couldn't we have a few flurries first?

I just became aware that in 2003 or so, after my association with the New York City Gay Men's Chorus had ended, the Chorus released a live recording that included this chart I'd written for the concert finale. The conductor was never really great with popular music, but it is what it is.
