Thanks to a silly repeating dream which combined something musical with ... I don't even know what now ... I was up at a more decent hour than I would have chosen for myself, and am now sipping a Stew Leonard's normal coffee (whatever they call it) K-cup.

Good morning, all!

I was going to watch another murder mystery last night and decided instead to watch the new Criterion Blu-ray edition of one of my favorite films, A Room With A View, and I wept through most of it. Denholm Elliot breaks my heart as Mr Emerson, but the entire cast is so absolutley right and wonderful. Some idiot reviewing the Criterion release said that Maggie Smith's funny, wet blanket "poor Charlotte" is like the dowager in Downton Abbey, and that's a load of crap: Charlotte's "poor me-kindness of others-my boiler's broken" repressed Victorian spinster has none of the authority and privilege of the dowager.

It's a film I love more after each viewing.

Sunday morning greetings! Fr. Richard excused me from church in Lima today because I have a sore throat and I'm sneezing and coughing. I will probably also miss the open house at the Oxford bed and breakfast that our friends Mike and Katie just bought.

I recall seeing THE SUBTERRANEANS (or however you spell it) when it was first released. I must not have liked it, because other than seeing it, I have no specific memory of the film.

I watched the last half of IN OLD CHICAGO yesterday.

I had been watching the first half on Christmas Eve before Sandy rushed me to the hospital.

Good movie. Holds up very well.

I only saw THE SUBTERRANEANS on the old CBS late movie....which had so many commercials, you couldn't really tell what was happening....I think I have the sountrack LP somewhere as well.
