I have only seen the term Annu Mirabilis refer to Jerome Kern and 1917, when the Princess Theatre bloomed with the KernWodehouse-Bolton shows "Oh, Lady! Lady!" and "Oh, Boy!" Kern's other 1917 shows included "Have A Heart, "Miss 1917," and "Leave It To Jane."

Daytime parties are the best!

I agree that they can be really nice, DR Jrand65.  They're lower-keyed (I'd say, about B major) and this one consists of good food, a good adult beverage or two (nothing overboard, nothing rowdy), and good conversation.  A nice kind of open house with which to bring in a year.

I saw "annus mirabilis" and thought it was the annual four-o'clock flower.

I have a New Year's Day partay to go to if I want to drive to Brooklyn -- Williamsburg(h), to be exact -- late this afternoon.  A friend there has had that for many years and I've been to a few but I've missed it for the past several years.  So I'm planning on going.  I don't even have to leave here till, say, between two and three in the p.m., so what the hell.

If I were not so ill  I would suggest you leave earlier and meet me for a Long Island diner brunch.... We shall have to try another time

New Year's morning greetings!  So far this year I've baked blueberry muffins from a mix we received for Christmas and assembled split pea soup in the crockpot using the still-meaty bone from our Christmas ham.  Richard, Rob, and I enjoyed the muffins for our breakfast and we'll all enjoy the soup during the Rose Bowl.

We were planning on going to see Star Wars today but if I can't lose this damn cough it would be unfair of me to go.. I don't wAnt to disturb the viewing  pleasure of the rest of the audience

Same reason we haven't seen it, DR Vixmom.

Last night, I watched the last three episodes of Grantchester and was asleep by 11:00.  I'm usually wakened by fireworks and other noises, but i heard nothing last night.  I did have several interesting dreams, but all i remember now is one in which I showed some folk a house down the street from DR Ginny and Richard.

Was it the red house at Poinciana and Glenmore?  It's been for sale for a while now...

Yes, we do.  In fact, this year ours will probably be up even longer because I leave for Boston on January 8 and won't have time to deal with it all on the 7th.

While way too hot and humid, the charming and beautiful beach town of Bruzios was delightful.   Prior to Bridgit Bardot moving here and putting it on the map it was a fishing village.  Simply lovely and not over crowded as our other stops have been.

Definitely.  And we shall have to not eat for two days prior, to "save up" for it.

And how did your NewYears Do, do! CHas?

The Do did what the Do does.

There's a small group of people for whom it's become a tradition to join here on NYE, and a few always stay over and manage the making of a big breakfast feast.  I'm not the party animal some of them are, so I enjoy taking my frequent breaks to check up on what's going on here.  I'd guess we've been doing this for some seven or eight years now.

Happy New Year!!  (again)

Today after the 11:00am Mass, my friend Sabrina and I are going to do a "church crawl" of as many Catholic churches we can get to in SF.   Seeing as though we both work for the church, we've always found it fascinating as to how many Catholic churches there are in SF.

So far today, I have dyed my hair.  I was getting pretty gray and I had a box of hair dye in the cupboard in the bathroom, so what the heck.  Nothing dramatic, just a little lighter than the photo on this page

The alarm at the church went off. I was upset, because I was the one who locked up last night. I am very careful about locking up, because I am the one who gets the call from the alarm company and have to go over and see what's up.

The cleaning crew set it off. Whew! It wasn't me!

When I saw Gabe, he said "your hair was a lot browner the last time I saw you"  I said "Well, I'm getting old" he said "Aren't you only 30?"   What a great kid

Maybe I'm not remembering it right.  Wondering if that made it into the West Coast delay of the CNN show.

No, we got the waterline lap dance on the West Coast, too.

My favorite part of Anderson and Kathy was when the skier kept trying to get Anderson to give him a kiss on the air.  That and the part where Kathy spray-tanned Anderson Cooper.
